STAGE 3 EXCURSION TO ST MARY’S CATHEDRAL & ART GALLERY

This week Year 5 and Year 6 went on an amazing excursion. We began by hopping on a bus and heading into the city. Our first stop was the replica of The Sistine Chapel, where we learned about the artists who painted the original masterpiece and the incredible process behind creating it.

We then moved into a room filled with projected artworks. In that same room, we listened to a presentation that explained the stories behind each artwork, making the experience even more meaningful.

Next, we visited to St Mary’s Cathedral, where we explored important paintings, statues of saints and the Stations of The Cross. We then walked underneath the Cathedral to the Crypt. When we walked down the stairs it was almost like stepping into the past. We saw the huge mosaic floor, which shows parts of Australia’s history in bright colours.

We then walked to the Sydney Art Gallery and admired some of the Young Archies portraits entered in the competition, along with many other incredible artworks. We even saw an artwork by THE Pablo Picasso, which was unbelievable.

It was such a fun day and we are so lucky to have had a once in a lifetime experience that we will never forget. A huge thankyou to Mrs Baker, Mrs Smithson, Mrs O’Kane, Mrs Green and Mrs Ma for giving us the opportunity to see these extraordinary masterpieces up close.

LEGO SPIKE ESSENTIAL 

Our Year 6 students continue to put their engineering skills to the test constructing cable cars using LEGO Spike Essential. From gears to coding, they are enjoying beginning their modes of transport to life.
