   Principal's Report

Term 2 is always one of the busiest and most rewarding periods of the school year, and this term has certainly been no exception. Our students have embraced a wide range of learning opportunities, both inside and outside the classroom. From engaging lessons and hands-on learning experiences to incursions, excursions, sporting events and camps, it has been wonderful to see so many students actively involved in school life and making the most of the opportunities available to them.

One of the most exciting developments this term has been the completion and official opening of our new Food Technology facilities. Following a $1.5 million refurbishment, students and staff now have access to state-of-the-art learning spaces that provide a modern, engaging environment for practical learning. The transformation has been remarkable, and it has been fantastic to see students already enjoying the new kitchens as they develop their culinary skills, creativity and confidence. These facilities will support high-quality learning experiences for many years to come and represent a significant investment in the future of our students.

Another highlight of the term was our annual Multicultural Day. Epping Secondary College is proud to be a richly diverse and multicultural community, and this event provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the many cultures, languages and traditions represented within our school. The day was filled with colour, energy and enthusiasm, with students proudly wearing traditional cultural dress, sharing aspects of their heritage and participating in cultural performances from around the world. The lunchtime celebration brought our community together in a spirit of respect, inclusion and appreciation for diversity, with students also enjoying the ever-popular ESC pizza.

On 15 May, we also recognised Education Support Day and took the opportunity to acknowledge the invaluable contribution of our Education Support staff. Whether working alongside teachers in classrooms, supporting students with additional learning needs, assisting with wellbeing programs, managing administration, maintaining our facilities or providing technical support, our Education Support staff play a vital role in ensuring our school operates effectively every day. Their dedication, professionalism and care make a significant difference to the lives of our students, and we are grateful for the commitment they show to our school community.

Year 8 Economics and Business - Humanities

Students studied what is required to be a business entrepreneur. They focused on the strengths needed and identified the traits they have to plan for a small business. Students worked independently to develop their ideas, make mistakes and troubleshoot ways to improve on them. They really enjoy this experience which was evident in their business presentations.

As I write this report, 100 students and 11 staff members are enjoying the annual Phillip Island Camp. Camps provide students with opportunities to challenge themselves, build resilience, strengthen friendships and create lasting memories beyond the classroom. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and hearing about their experiences, adventures and achievements over the week.

As we move into the final weeks of the semester, our focus will turn to a number of important learning milestones. Year 10 and 11 students will soon undertake their mid-year examinations, providing an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and prepare for the expectations of senior studies. All eligible students will sit the statewide General Achievement Test (GAT) on Tuesday 16 June, with further information to follow.

The Year 11 into Year 12 subject selection process will also begin from 15 June, giving students the opportunity to plan their pathways and studies for next year.

Following exams, our Year 10 students will participate in Work Experience placements, gaining valuable insights into the world of work, developing employability skills and exploring potential future career pathways.

If students require assistance with their learning, wellbeing, pathway planning or organisation, we encourage them to speak with their teachers, Year Level Leaders, Careers Team or Wellbeing staff. Working together, we can ensure every student is supported to achieve their best.

Thank you to our families for your ongoing support, and I look forward to sharing more achievements, experiences and celebrations from Epping Secondary College as the year progresses.

Warm regards,
