ART CLUB:

In Drawing Club, students enjoyed creating beautiful Mother’s Day cards filled with colour, creativity and thoughtful designs. Students explored drawing, pattern and decorative techniques to produce personalised cards for someone special in their lives. It was wonderful to see the care and effort students put into their artwork as they expressed kindness, appreciation and love through their creative ideas.

YEAR 1

In Year 1, students explored shape and colour through an Alexander Calder inspired abstract painting. They learned about the primary colours and discovered that these colours cannot be made by mixing others. Using careful brush strokes, students painted triangles within their compositions using red, blue and yellow. They focused on painting neatly within their shapes and applying colour with control. It was wonderful to see students building confidence with painting techniques while developing their understanding of primary colours.

YEAR 3

In Year 3, students explored line, pattern, tone, shape, proportion and value through a fun Mona Lisa cat drawing inspired by Fernando Botero. They learned about Botero’s unique style of exaggerated volume and applied this by creating their own cat version of the Mona Lisa. Students used chalk pastels to add colour, experimenting with blending techniques to create smooth transitions and a sense of form. They also explored using darker tones to show value and depth in their artwork before retracing their outlines with black oil pastel. It was fantastic to see students confidently experimenting with chalk and creating bold, expressive portraits.

YEAR 5

In Year 5, students explored line, colour and space through a leaf painting inspired by close-up natural forms. They learned how to use watercolours effectively, selecting either warm or cool colour palettes to create bold and expressive leaf designs. Students developed their understanding of primary and secondary colours while carefully applying 2–3 colours to their work. They also painted complementary backgrounds and enhanced their artworks with additional details using oil pastels. It was wonderful to see students experimenting with colour and composition to create vibrant and eye-catching pieces.
