Principal's Report

April 24, 2026 will be remembered as a significant moment in our College’s history.

On this day, Sr Cecilia Merrigan departed Echuca for Melbourne to join other members of the Brigidine Congregation in Albert Park. This marks the end of an extraordinary chapter - one that has seen the Brigidine Sisters live, work, care and minister in Echuca for 140 years.

Their legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of St Joseph’s College. As we move forward as a Kildare Ministries school, we do so with deep gratitude, entrusted with continuing the mission they began.

Those of us who have had the privilege of working alongside Sr Cecilia know her as a woman of discernment, generosity and courage, with a profound love and empathy for those on the margins. She has been a true role model - an inspiration to all who aspire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Sr Cecilia’s connection to St Joseph’s spans a lifetime. She attended the College as a boarder before returning as a teacher and leader, dedicating many years of service to our community. Our College has been enriched by her presence, and by the unwavering commitment of the Brigidine Sisters. For this, we are forever grateful.

On Friday, a quiet yet powerful moment unfolded as Sr Cecilia left Echuca, marking the close of 140 years of Brigidine presence in our town, and the beginning of a new chapter.
