July is behind us and Semester Two is in full swing here at the College! Whether things in your world seem to be slowing down or packed full, we hope you'll enjoy this mid-year update about all that's going on at Waverley Christian College.

Finding Nemo Jr. at Wantirna South

It’s not too late—we have last minute tickets left for our Primary Musical: Finding Nemo Jr. Get them before they’re gone!

Disney’s Finding Nemo Jr. is a musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo, with new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Marlin, an anxious and over-protective clownfish, lives in the Great Barrier Reef with his kid Nemo, who longs to explore the world beyond their anemone home. But when Nemo is captured and taken to Sydney, Marlin faces his fears and sets off on an epic adventure across the ocean. With the help of lovable characters such as optimistic Dory, laid-back sea turtle Crush, and the supportive Tank Gang, Marlin and Nemo both overcome challenges on their journey to find each other and themselves.

There will be three evening performances on Tuesday 4th August, Wednesday 5th August and Thursday 6th August, each at 7:00pm. Our show is being performed on stage in the Performing Arts Centre (PAC). Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the link below. 

Programmes will also be available for purchase on the night. The Parents’ Association will have refreshments for purchase before each show.

Frozen Jr. at Narre Warren South

Only a few tickets remain for NWS's Primary Musical, Disney’s Frozen Jr. Don’t miss your chance to experience this captivating production and join us on a journey to the kingdom of Arendelle before tickets are gone!

Based on the beloved Disney film, Frozen Jr. features all of your favourite characters, including Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, along with unforgettable songs such as Let It Go, Do You Want to Build a Snowman? and For the First Time in Forever. Join our talented Primary students as they bring this heartwarming story of courage, friendship and the power of family to life on stage.

All performances will be held in the Multipurpose Centre (MPC). Tickets are $20 and can be purchased via the link below.

Programmes will also be available for purchase on the night, and refreshments and snacks will be available to purchase before each performance.

WS Staff Trip to New Int'l Partnership School

Over the school holidays, a team of staff—comprised of Mr Andrew Bawden (Head of Secondary), Mr Adam Messenger (Head of Primary) and Miss Sarah Glewis (WS 2018)(Student Chaplain)—completed an exploratory trip to the Philippines, visiting the Jenelle Duncan Memorial Christian School (JDMCS) in Cabagan, Isabela, which is approximately 500km northeast of Manila. Our Campus began partnering with this school earlier in the year, and we were excited and grateful for the opportunity for our staff to meet the teachers and students in person.

After flying from Manila to Tuguegarao City, the team was met at the airport by the School Administrator/Principal, Pastor Rey Ingarang and his wife Donna, and were driven to the school, where they stayed for the next five days. Hearing about JDMCS’s history, origin and testimony was a trip highlight for the team—as they were able to see firsthand how God has worked in the community. JDMCS began with just a few students, and over the years the Primary School has grown to 70 students. The team were able to pass on gifts to all the students, with each child receiving a small Australian animal soft toy and pencil. The teachers also all received gift bags full of some special Australian memorabilia. The team was also able to bring over some classroom supplies to donate to the classes at JDMCS.

Andrew, Adam and Sarah visited each classroom where they shared a short presentation on Australia, and enjoyed spending time reading to the students in the Library. They were encouraged by how excited the children were for the privilege to read, and how genuinely grateful they were for the selection of books they have—which filled just one bookshelf.

During one day of the trip, the team visited a farm nearby the school, where they played games with all the students and participated in the school’s weekly swimming lesson. The pool was an initiative from Pastor Rey, where he had the idea to utilise some filtered water for a public swimming pool to provide a place to host swimming lessons. The area unfortunately suffers from high drowning rates among children who cannot swim, so this initiative has already been a significant blessing to the community.

The team was blessed with many ministry opportunities while there, including visiting Christ the Saviour Church—affiliated with the school—where Andrew and Sarah were able to share short devotionals. They also led a school Chapel service, where each taught on an aspect of the story of David in the Bible, leading small group discussions so students could reflect on what they had learnt.

An especially significant part of the trip was opening the brand-new music room at the school! The team spent time in Tuguegarao City purchasing various musical equipment, using funds raised by the WCC community. Adam had the honour of joining Pastor Rey in leading the students and staff in worship, as everyone enjoyed a special time of worshipping and giving thanks to the Lord for His provision!

Before leaving Cabagan, the team was also able to visit some other local ministries and churches in the surrounding villages, and once again was incredibly inspired by the encouraging ministries and unwavering faith they witnessed, despite the persecution and hardship.

Since returning home, they have shared their stories at the Primary and Secondary Chapel services on Thursday 23rd July—sharing about their time in the Philippines. The trip was a significant time of building relationships with the staff at JDMCS, and we are excited to continue to partner with the school!

2025 Annual Report

2026 College Council

As you may be aware, under its formal rules, the governance of the College is the responsibility of the College Council. As has been the case over many years, in 2026 we have again been blessed with an outstanding group of members committed to ensuring that the highest standards of governance are maintained in the implementation of the College’s Vision and Mission. 

Throughout the year, Council members serve in a voluntary capacity on the College Council and also on its various working sub-committees. The College Council is appointed by the Board of CityLife Church at the WCC AGM held in May each year and is responsible for the oversight of all aspects of the operations of the College. We look forward to another exciting term filled with many activities—most notably, our Primary School Productions at each Campus, as mentioned above, but also the commencement of the construction of our new Senior Learning and Resource Centre at the Narre Warren South Campus. In light of this latter project, we sincerely thank our community for your very generous support of our recent Annual Capital Development Appeal, which this year raised over $80,000. 

We continue to thank God for His faithfulness to us and for the opportunity to gather daily as a community committed to educating and nurturing our students from a Christ-centered and Biblical perspective.
