Stage 4 Music

Year 7 - World Music
In Music this term, students in Year 7 have been exploring a diverse range of musical traditions through their ‘World Music’ unit. A key focus has been on Indigenous music, where students have investigated the origins of songs and the cultural significance of traditional instruments. This has provided valuable insight into the role of music in storytelling, community, and cultural identity.
Building on this learning, students are now engaging in a creative task where they write, compose, and record their own RAP using the music software, Soundtrap. Throughout this process, students have developed skills in lyric writing, rhythm, and digital music production. They have selected and layered instruments to create their own backing tracks before recording their vocals. The variety of topics has been impressive, with RAPs ranging from sport and personal interests to imaginative ideas such as running a lemonade stand. It has been wonderful to see students express themselves creatively while building confidence in performance and technology.
Year 8 - Popular Music
Year 8 students have been focusing on Popular Music and are currently preparing for an exciting group performance task. Working collaboratively, students have selected songs, organised their instrumental roles, and used class time effectively to rehearse and refine their performances. There has been a strong emphasis on teamwork, stage presence, and musical accuracy.
Students have chosen a wide range of well-known songs, including Man I Need, Country Roads, Seven Nation Army, Piano Man, and Riptide. As part of this task, students will perform live for another Year 8 class before the end of the term. This provides an authentic performance experience and an opportunity to showcase their hard work and progress.
Kildare continues to foster and support the development of Music and the Creative Arts, providing students with opportunities to engage in private music lessons, join ensembles, and participate in performances. Students who are interested in commencing individual music lessons are encouraged to contact Miss Baker or Ms Hale for further information.
