At KCC, it is our goal for students to maximise their attendance and learning time to give themselves their best chances of success. Attendance at school remains a key driver in student learning growth and personal development. When you’re at school, you experience 5 great lessons, social connection, opportunities to excel in sport and extra-curricular activities, and feel the true sense of belonging that is always available to every member of our community.

Next week, we are planning on sending home (via Compass) Semester 1 reports. Within this report, you will find a summary of full day and partial day attendance. Whilst reviewing this data, can I ask our families to consider attendance patterns, and discuss with your child the importance of regular attendance. As you can see in the infographic below, even late mornings and early departures over a period of time can add up to significant lost learning time.

Strong partnerships between school and home remains essential in supporting student attendance. Our homegroup teachers are our first point of contact for students for the school day and they will regularly check in with students and their families to monitor attendance to ensure attendance notes and data are up to date. Homegroup teachers will reach out via email or a phone call when they want to check in around attendance, and may escalate to their Academic Care and Wellbeing Coordinator of their house if they feel additional support is required. If they do reach out, please collaborate with our staff to determine next steps in support of your child. Our College procedures follow the CEDWW attendance policy, which you may like to review via the link here

In alignment with Mrs Scutti’s reflection on ‘Celebrating Success,’ our updated report format provides our community an avenue to continue this celebration at home. Next week when we send home reports for years 7-10, you will notice a revamped report template. One particular addition of note is a summary page for in class, and out of classroom affirmations. Receiving a formal affirmation (or PBL as the students like to call them) from a member of staff, should be a proud moment for students and their families. Please join me in congratulating your child on their positive behaviour for learning affirmations they have received this semester.

As we draw to the end of the term, congratulations to our students, staff, and wider community on an amazing term, full of success, growth and building our collective sense of belonging. All the best for a restful and reenergising holiday break.
