Festival of Media, Art & Design
Cathie Cowcher
Head of Learning - Visual Art & Design and Technology
The 2023 Brunswick SC, FOMAD Exhibition opening was held Tuesday 28 November. It was a wonderful event attended by parents, carers, students and teachers. It showcased a wide range of creative and unique artwork, product design and media from Year 7 through to VCE (Years 11 and 12).
It takes many weeks of creative work by our students, several weeks of detailed planning meetings involving the staff of the Learning Area (Visual Arts, Product Design and Media) and two very busy days to set up the FOMAD. It is always very delightful to see the exhibition come together, to celebrate the work of the students and to acknowledge the dedicated teaching.
As a part of FOMAD we award prizes at the event. This year, the Ceramics Prize (a $100 Voucher from Northcote Potteries) was awarded to Mabel Beachcroft. The Visual Communication and Design Prize (a set of drawing tools from Melbourne Artist Supplies) was awarded to Jasper Noronha. The Product Design and Technology (Textiles) Prize (a set of drawing tools from Melbourne Artist Supplies) was awarded to James Rowe, and the RMIT Sculpture Prize (an Art book) was awarded to Daisy Joyce. Congratulations to students who received a prize.
Thank you to the Parents Association (Michelle, Sally, Rebecca and Graz) for providing poffertjes and drinks on the evening. It is aways greatly appreciated to have their involvement and support at a Brunswick Secondary College event. Thank you also to Michael Kean for organising the student music performance by Margot Dobson and Asha Rai Leong, which was exquisite.
Finally and very importantly, a very big Thank You to the teachers in the Visual Art & Design and Technologies Learning Area for their thorough commitment and enthusiasm to every aspect of their teaching and school day: Mitchel Brannan, Nicki Brook, Sheridan Dinsdale, Karen Ferguson, Simone Goddard, Tim James, Bec Rowe and Chloe Wilmott.
