Shooting

Fifteen Trinity College Colac students competed for the High Gun at Warrnambool Gun Club on 23 October. Congratulations to Anna in Year 8 who gave an outstanding performance, coming third in the Novice Female section by hitting nine out of 20 targets. All students were successful in hitting targets and displayed a high level of respect and care during the day.

A big thank you to Mr Stephen Gill for assisting students on the day and  Mr Phil Balcombe for transporting the guns.

This competition completes the clay target shooting circuit for the school year – well done to all who participated throughout the year.

Cricket

On 16 November, our Year 7 boys headed down to Geelong to compete in the State Cricket Quarter Finals against Maribyrnong, who are a great sports school so we knew we would have to play well to get the win.

Our boys won the toss and chose to bowl first with our two openers Seb and Max bowling the first four overs. Maribyrnong got off to a great start with the bat being on 18 after three overs until Max took the first wicket and got us on a roll with Seb taking another wicket in the next over leaving them 2-24 off four overs.

We then decided to change the pace with Reece and Isaac, who bowled exceptionally well getting hit for minimal runs. Will then came into bowl, taking a wicket immediately. Once we had five overs to go, we brought our opening bowlers back on who contained the runs with Max ending with two wickets and Seb with three.

After the 20 overs were bowled, Maribyrnong ended with 6-130 and we knew we were capable of chasing that down. Seb and Isaac opened the batting, getting us off to a great start until Seb hit one up and was caught. At the half-way mark we were 60 and, knowing we still had some work to do, our batters kept fighting hard. Max and Jack came in with both of them batting superbly, hitting some big sixes and getting us to our total with still 12 balls to go – our Year 7 boys were through to the State Semi Finals!

Our best players for the day were Seb taking 3-19 off four; Max taking 2-24 off four and making 26 not out; Isaac making 30, and Jack for his excellent batting and bringing us home with the win by making 16 not out.

Cricket State Semi Finals Update

After their brilliant win in the quarter final, our Year 7 boys' cricket team was ready to tackle Mckinnon Secondary College in the SSV semi final. The Trinity boys narrowly lost, making 6-127 and falling five runs short of 2/132.

Congratulations to our cricketers – they played exceptionally well and should be very proud of their efforts.
