Happy Presentation Day!

Next Tuesday 21st November we celebrate Presentation day.

As a proud Presentation school, our Charism is built on the foundations of Nano Nagle and the Presentation sisters.

The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated on November 21st.

This feast of Mary originated in the Eastern Orthodox tradition as a result of the dedication of the Basilica of St Mary the New, built in 543 by the Byzantines near the site of the ruined Temple in Jerusalem.  The feast was celebrated throughout the East and in the monasteries of Southern Italy by the 9th century.  In the Roman Catholic Church, it was introduced in 1372, included in the Roman Missal in 1472, suppressed in 1568 and reintroduced in 1585.

The feast is associated with an event written in the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James, which has been dated by historians prior to 200AD.  The story relates that in thanksgiving for the birth of their daughter, Mary, her parents decide to consecrate her to God and bring her, at the age of 3, to the temple in Jerusalem. Mary remained in the Temple until her 12th year, at which point she was assigned to Joseph as guardian.  According to Coptic tradition, her father died when Mary was 6 years old and her mother when Mary was 8.  The story is a legend with no foundation in history and its point is to show that even in her childhood Mary was completely dedicated to God.

In the Eastern Church, the Feast of the Presentation is also called the Feast of the Silence of Mary.  Entering into the temple is a symbol of entering into the silence of God, into the life of the Spirit.  In our world, the Feast of the Presentation could also be called the Feast of the Voiceless—in solidarity with the voiceless who are forced into a silence that is the deadly fruit of oppression.

Pope Francis Graduation

A huge CONGRATULATIONS to our Year 6 students who successfully completed the Pope Francis Award Program this year.

This program would not be so successful and could not run without the generous time given by Mrs Maguire. I know these students will echo my resounding thanks to Mrs Maguire for her dedication to this program and making it a success.

Year 6 RE Test

In week 1 this term, students in Year 6 sat the SCS RE Test. This year was the first year that the test was administered on an online platform.

The test assesses content taught from RE units from Year 3 to Year 6.

If you are interested in looking at the questions from the 2023 test, please find it here.

Answers and curriculum links can be found here.

We are due to receive our schools results by week 9.

When they are received and analysed we will celebrate our students' achievements with the community.

Term 4 Liturgical Calendar

Our Families are warmly welcome to join our classes for Parish Mass in the Church 9.00am on Wednesday mornings.

Mini Vinnies - Term 4

This term our Mini Vinnies team have popped buckets into each classroom. These buckets are to collect plastic bottles and juice box containers. The first class to fill their bucket will receive a prize and all of the bottles will be taken to the Return and Earn station and money received will be donated to our local Vinnies chapter.

Please remind your children at home to recycle their plastic bottles and juice boxes rather than throwing them in the bin.

In Christ,
