Celebrating Student Achievements

Congratulations to our F1 in Schools team,  Aiolos, who has progressed through to the F1 in Schools National Finals in Adelaide in March 2024. Team Manager, Nick Shipham is happy with the team's result.

"After months of work our team, Aiolos, and three other St. Bede’s teams competed at the Victorian F1 in Schools State Final. The first thing we did when we arrived was to submit our cars and portfolios. We then built our trade display and that was it for day 1. The next day we left school at 6:30 so that we could start our busy day. We competed in racing, both with reactions and without, a verbal presentation, and marketing and engineering interviews. The next 2 days, our professional teams competed. On the final day we went to watch the award ceremony, unfortunately no St. Bede’s team won a award. However our team did progress to nationals with a wildcard. Onto Adelaide in March 2024!"

Advanced Science Showcase

Our Year 9 Advanced Science students at our Bentleigh East Campus held their Research Poster Presentation Display.

This evening showcased the work of the students as they explained some of the more involved scientific concepts and understandings. The event was well attended by the students’ families. Learning Area Leader - Science, Sally Spencer is thrilled with the efforts of each student.

"Our students researched a unique topic about astrophysics or chemistry and wrote a scientific research poster to communicate their findings. I continue to be so proud of all of their hard work and how much they have grown throughout this challenging course. It has been a pleasure to teach them all this year and I look forward to seeing these young people achieve great things in their senior years!"

Posters will be on display in the Bentleigh East Campus library until next year as an inspiration to all students.

Calsher Dear at Hawthorn Football Team

We’re absolutely thrilled to hear that St Bede's College's own Calsher Dear (Class of 2023) has been drafted to Hawthorn!

This is a very special team for Calsher, whose late father, Paul Dear was a Hawthorn star (1987 – 1996), so it’s a wonderful following of footsteps.  Calsher’s House Coordinator, Mark Micallef is overjoyed with the news.

“Watching the event on television Tuesday night, I was delighted to hear Calsher’s name being called out by the Hawthorn Football Club for pick #56.

The commentary that followed gave a lot of respect to both Calsher and Paul with the knowledge that the legacy of the Dear family name continues at the football club. I wish Calsher every success and I look forward to seeing him running around the football field and playing at his best over the coming years.”

An excellent result for all the dedication and drive.  Well-deserved Calsher!

Global Connections

It was our pleasure to host two teachers from our sister-school SMK Sepuluh Nopember, Sidoarjo in East Java, to our College last week.

Students studying Indonesian language had the opportunity to interact with the visiting teachers. Students were encouraged to use their Indonesian language skills and engage positively with our visitors.
