Fern House

Fern House has worked hard in 2023 to focus on engagement and learning as well as the social and emotional development of our learners. We have strived to provide an environment for our learners that is safe, inclusive and engaging for all students to experience success. This year, students have regularly been asked to consider their responsibilities as learners and as members of the Dandenong High School community. This includes the simple expectations of wearing the uniform correctly, being organised with the correct equipment for classes, arriving to classes on time and engaging positively with their learning program. We will continue with this focus into 2024.

Every student in Fern House has the opportunity to live the school motto “Faber Quisque Fortunae”, which means “Everyone is the Architect of their own Destiny”. It has been pleasing to see many students embracing their opportunities and contributing not only within the classroom, but also to the wider Dandenong High School community. I would like to highlight the work of the School Vice Captain, Rishika G, and our House Captains, Farid N and Hamidullah H, in their commitment to student representation and leadership. Thanks also goes to the student representatives from across Years 7-11 for their ongoing leadership. I also want to recognise and thank all the Fern students that made positive contributions across whole-school events, including the Swimming and Athletics Carnivals, as well as the House Chorales Competition. Go Fern!

Respect. I want to highlight this word this year and encourage our Fern community members to focus on its importance and what it means. We are asked to demonstrate respect in so many different ways. This includes respect for self, respect for others, respect for rules and expectations, and respect for our school. I want to thank all the Fern community that enact their respect in all these different ways every day. As the Fern House Leader, I will continue to strive for a House where every member of its community lives up to the importance of this word and what it means, to ensure that Fern House is the best it can be for everyone.

Nearing the end of this year, Fern students are completing their studies and taking an opportunity to get a start on their studies for 2024. Thank you to all of the Fern staff for your ongoing commitment to Fern House students. I would like to especially thank the Fern House Leadership Team members for their ongoing support and work throughout this year. This includes the Assistant House Leader, Thomas Hassett, the Student Engagement Coordinator, Mitchell Pawsey, and our wonderful House Attendance Officer, Tanya Anderson. As a team we strive to achieve the best outcomes for our students and provide an environment where everyone can experience success.
