Banksia House

2023 has been a year of great success and change for Banksia House.

Staff and students have welcomed both Miss McLure and Mr Elkington into the House Leadership Team and have said farewell to Mrs Mason, as she took on the role of Associate Principal, and to Mr Dowsing, as he moved across the school to Hakea House in Term 4. We have also said hello to many new staff and students and farewelled some who were much loved members of the Banksia community and who we wish all the best on their next adventures.

From the very start of the year, our staff and students have worked toward success in learning as well as in activities outside of the classroom. We missed out on securing a win in the Swimming, but ran, jumped and shot-putted ourselves to victory in the Athletics. With Mr White leading the charge, we put on a brilliant show at the House Chorales competition with Miley Cyrus’ hit song ‘Flowers’ (It was so catchy that even Mrs Mason could be seen humming along to it in her office). Put all together, Banksia House earned the points needed to win the coveted House Shield for 2023! Something we plan to defend with even more student participation in 2024!

We didn’t stop there though! Led by our Student Representative Council, House Captains and some dedicated Year 12s, Banksia raised over $750 dollars for our House charity ‘Tour de Cure’, an organisation dedicated to helping find a cure for Cancer all the while promoting the healthy physical activity of bike riding. This huge effort by Banksia House students also resulted in Banksia being awarded the House Social Service Shield for the SECOND year running! Who knows, maybe we can go for a hattrick in 2024?

In Banksia House, we like to recognise the contribution of all our student leaders, including those who have not undertaken any formal leadership roles, yet have contributed in meaningful ways to our excellent House culture. We do wish to pay our special thanks to those students who stepped into formal leadership roles this year: Rachael Borg (School Captain), Ava Zaheri Abdehvand and Omid Hashemi (House Captains), Ben Philip, Negina Osmani, Dylan Chapman, Mojtaba Hassani, Fathima Mohammadi and Siddiqa Rezaei (SRC Representatives). May 2024 see more students stepping up into roles of responsibility within the House and school and enacting leadership in both formal and informal ways.

All staff and students in the House of orange should be incredibly proud of all that we have achieved together over the course of this year and of the fantastic culture we have built together. Onwards and upwards from here! Best wishes for the summer holidays! Remember to balance your preparation for 2024 (especially all of you entering Year 11 and 12) with rest and fun!
