Hakea House

2023 has been a busy and exciting year in Hakea House for students and staff alike.

Hakeans are proud to have been involved in the School Shield competitions and celebrated a win this year for the Swimming Carnival and took home third place in the House Chorales Competition.

Students and staff have also engaged in a range of in-house activities and competitions including a very successful art competition in Term 3 and a photography competition in Term 4; it was fantastic to see Hakeans getting involved in these and showcasing their talents! Students and staff have also engaged in staff vs students Uno competitions and Dodgeball matches where fun was had by all.

This year, Dandenong High School has been developing our Visible Wellbeing practices, and Hakea has been no exception. Students and staff have engaged in exploring and sharing their strengths and developing their visible wellbeing practices.

As part of Hakea’s fundraising initiative, the SRC raised over $430 for foodbank. Student Leaders organised a range of activities including selling lollies and icy poles to raise the funds for their chosen charity.

Hakea also has some incredible individual students to celebrate including Connie in Year 9, who is a National Table Tennis Champion, a group of Year 10 students who won the Swinburne Innovation Challenge and many students developing their athleticism in the Melbourne Victory Program.

A sincere thank you to all staff, students and members of the community who have been involved in making 2023 such an enjoyable year for Hakea. It has been a pleasure to join Dandenong this year and am grateful to the staff and students who have made me so welcome. Congratulations to Mr Ferguson on his appointment as Associate Principal; his presence in the House will be missed.

A huge congratulations to all our fantastic Year 12s who have graduated this year; we are all very proud of your hard work and wish you all the best in the future. Stay in touch; you will always be part of the Dandenong community.

Finally, I would like to wish all staff, students and parents a restful and enjoyable break and look forward to seeing everyone for another fantastic year in 2024.
