Bullying No Way Week
This week 11th-15th August marks National Bullying No Way Week. The theme for this year was Be Bold. Be Kind. Stand Up. Throughout TRP lessons, students have engaged in activities based around acts of kindness, sharing, identifying bullying behaviours and standing up to support their classmates when they witness acts of bullying. It's been great to see students so passionately engaging in lessons.
Juniors: After hearing the story of The Rainbow Fish and identifying the themes of friendship, sharing, kindness and happiness, students created their own rainbow fish. We discussed the importance of kindness and compassion and spoke about ways we can display these traits at home and at school.
Seniors: As part of our involvement in the National Bullying No Way initiative this week, students have been looking at decoding different behaviours they may encounter in the classroom and in the yard. Students explored the definition of bullying, considered different scenarios and then completed role plays around the "Friendship Fire", "Mean on Purpose" and "Bullying" topics. I've included a template of the definitions we used in the classroom below for families to refer to too. Some terrific discussions were held amongst students with some fabulous acting and it was marvellous to see the students so engaged in identifying what is and is not a bullying behaviour and also identifying strategies they could use when encountering bullying behaviours. Students also wrote out some acts of kindness they could do during the week, with "helping Mum and Dad" getting lots of mentions so hold them to this! Students enjoyed this video. about the Kindness Boomerang too if families would like to re-watch with their children and discuss how simple acts of kindness can be contagious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwAYpLVyeFU&list=RDnwAYpLVyeFU&start_radio=1
