From the Principal

It is with great pleasure that I return to Lumen Christi College following my secondment to Salvado Catholic College. The opportunity to be part of another Catholic school community was both enriching and rewarding, and I value the shared commitment to faith and learning that connects our schools. It is gratifying to be back at Lumen Christi, where I have missed the energy, spirit, and shared commitment to excellence that characterises our college.

A particularly exciting event coinciding with my return has been the staging of our latest college production, Matilda JR. This musical is the result of a significant collaborative effort, involving the creativity, dedication, and countless hours of preparation from staff, students and families. The production reflects Lumen’s strong tradition of performing arts and community engagement.

On Wednesday, we welcomed over 200 local primary school students and other special guests to a special matinee performance of Matilda JR, which was met with enthusiastic applause and appreciation. The show also enjoyed a successful opening night on Thursday evening, with additional performances scheduled for Friday night and Saturday afternoon. I warmly encourage families and friends to secure tickets and experience this uplifting and inspiring production.

At its heart, Matilda JR carries a powerful message about courage, resilience, and the importance of standing up for what is right — themes that resonate strongly with our college values and the journey of our students.

Our Year 10 students are currently engaged in course counselling interviews, continuing into next week. These personalised sessions, conducted in partnership with parents, play a crucial role in guiding students as they make informed decisions about their Year 11 subject selections and future pathways. I would like to acknowledge and thank the staff involved for their professionalism and care in supporting our students during this important process.

It is a pleasure to announce that Shanaya Paul, a Year 8 student at our college, has been appointed to the newly established Student Advisory Council of Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA). This Council serves as a representative body, giving students a meaningful voice in shaping the future of Catholic education. Shanaya was selected from a wide pool of nominees across Years 7–11 and is one of just twenty students chosen system-wide for this important role. We commend her for this outstanding achievement and look forward to the leadership she will bring to this initiative.
