It’s been a busy and exciting time in Grade 2 with plenty of special events and learning!
Botanic Gardens ExcursionStudents enjoyed exploring the wonders of plant life, from towering trees to tiny seeds, through hands-on activities and guided discovery at the Botanic Gardens.
Pyjama Day FundraiserOur cosy Pyjama Day raised over $800 for the Love of Learning Program, supporting children in foster care. Thank you for your generous support!
NAIDOC Week CelebrationsStudents took part in music, dance, and storytelling to celebrate NAIDOC Week, learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and traditions.
Phonics We’ve been revising vowel digraphs (are, ur, aw) through:
- Word work and spelling practice
- Reading decodable texts
- Writing and word building activities
Knowledge & Literature Year 2 students have been learning about the meaning and history of NAIDOC Week, and explored themes of identity and community through The Two-Hearted Numbat by Ambelin & Ezekiel Kwaymullina.
Writing We’ve been working on:
- Writing complete sentences and short paragraphs
- Learning possessive adjectives (my, your) and pronouns (mine, yours)
- Using –er for comparisons (e.g., taller, smaller)
- Editing work with growing independence
Mathematics Our focus has been on length and mass. Students have:
- Measured using informal and formal units (cm, m, g)
- Estimated, compared, and recorded measurements accurately
Take Home Readers – ReminderPlease record one book per night in your child’s diary and bring book satchels daily. Aim for 5 nights of reading (10 minutes each). You can use the QR codes in diaries for extra reading. If your child is tired, take turns reading to keep it fun!
