Foundation News

Dear Foundation Parents/Guardians,

Welcome back! We hope you and your child had a relaxing and enjoyable break. It’s wonderful to see everyone returning refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning.

We’ve already reached a special milestone – 100 days of school! Students enjoyed celebrating this event with a day full of fun activities, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and creativity.

Term 3 has plenty more exciting events to look forward to, including Book Week and Science Week. These special occasions provide fantastic opportunities for students to explore their creativity, deepen their curiosity, and share in the joy of learning.

Learning Focuses

English

It has been wonderful to see our students growing in confidence with the routines of our English block. We have revised all previously learned letters and introduced four new sounds: /zz/ and /qu/. Students are developing strong phonemic awareness, confidently identifying individual sounds and blending them to read complete words. We have also continued to focus on high‑frequency words such as the, is, a, and no, helping students to build fluency by recognising and reading the words they encounter most often in text.

Literature

In Literature, students have enjoyed reading the much‑loved story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Through this text, they learned how to use adjectives to describe nouns, helping them add more detail and colour to their writing. They also practised sequencing the events of the story, building their understanding of how a narrative unfolds in order.

The book also tied beautifully into our science learning, as we explored the life cycle of a butterfly. Students were fascinated to learn new vocabulary such as metamorphosis, and enjoyed connecting the story to real‑world knowledge about how living things grow and change.

Maths

In Maths, students have been exploring shapes and learning how to sort them based on their attributes. They have been grouping shapes by size, colour, shape type, and other features such as the number of sides and corners. This hands‑on learning has helped them build important classification skills and strengthen their ability to recognise and describe the properties of different shapes.

Reminders

Science week is week 4 of Term

Book week is week 5 of Term

Curriculum day 1st September (students not required at school)

Pick up and Drop off:

We kindly ask that you allow your child to enter the classroom independently, carrying their own belongings both to and from school. This helps to build their independence and fosters important life skills such as responsibility, organisation, and self‑confidence.

If someone other than you or your child’s listed guardians will be picking up your child, please ensure they are added as an approved emergency contact. Our friendly administration team can assist you with this at the school office. This process helps ensure your child’s safety and supports clear communication between teachers, parents, and carers.

We appreciate your support in helping our students grow into capable and confident learners.

Tissues!

With the cooler winter months upon us, our classrooms have been going through a lot of tissues! If you are able, we would greatly appreciate any donations of tissue boxes to help keep our students comfortable and healthy during this time.

Thank you so much for your support and generosity.
