Principal's Report

Welcome Back
Dear Families,
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break. Whether you stayed local or travelled to warmer places (and if you did—lucky you!), I hope it brought a good change of pace for you and your family.
Child Safety is Always Our Top Priority
You may have seen troubling news recently about breaches in child safety at some early learning centres. At Wimba PS, child safety is something we take extremely seriously. Our staff, parents, and carers all play an important role in keeping our school community safe. If you ever have any concerns, please speak with a member of our leadership or wellbeing teams—we are always here to listen and support.
Upcoming Curriculum Day
A friendly reminder that our upcoming curriculum day is on Monday 1st September.
Parent Teacher Conversations
A reminder that school will finish early at 12:00pm on Tuesday 26th August to allow time for Parent-Teacher Conversations, which will run from 1:00pm to 6:30pm. These 10-minute meetings are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, celebrate their progress, and work together to set goals for the remainder of the year. Meetings will be held in your child’s classroom.
In the event that an interpreter is required, please contact your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible so arrangements can be made.
Specialist Learning Expo
Instead of one-on-one interviews, our Specialist team will be hosting a Specialist Learning Expo to share subject content and celebrate student learning. Families are warmly invited to visit the following areas during the afternoon:
- STEM: Kim Miter – STEM Room 2
- Visual Art: Yvette Champness – Art Room
- Music: Rebecca Freeman – Library
- Health & Physical Education: Alex Schwartz – Library
To access the Specialist Learning Expo, please enter through the main doors of the Library.
Key Information:
- Date: Tuesday 26th August, 2025
- Early Dismissal: 12:00pm for all students
- Staff Lunch Break: 12:00pm – 1:00pm
- Parent-Teacher Conversations: 1:00pm – 6:30pm (last booking at 6:20pm)
Bookings for classroom teacher conversations can be made via Compass. If you need assistance, please contact your child's classroom teacher.
We look forward to welcoming you on the day and continuing our partnership to support your child’s learning.
NAPLAN 2025 Results – Grade 3 & 5
We’re pleased to let you know that NAPLAN reports for our Grade 3 and 5 students have been sent home in sealed envelopes. We’re very proud of our students’ results and will share more details in our next newsletter.
Updated Suspension and Expulsion Powers
From Term 3, Victorian government school principals may take action when serious behaviour happens outside of school (including online), if it affects the safety or wellbeing of others at school. This applies only to serious issues from Monday 21 July 2025 onward, and only when there’s a clear link to the school. Suspension or expulsion will always be a last resort—our focus remains on supporting students with positive behaviour strategies and strong school partnerships.
Road Safety Reminder
Sadly, we are still seeing unsafe driving near our school during drop-off and pick-up times. Some behaviours—like double parking, blocking driveways, or crossing away from the crossing—put students at real risk. Please remember: no one’s time is more important than a child’s safety.
Following feedback, we’ve asked Wyndham Council for greater parking patrols. Fines may apply, so please take care and set a good example for our students.
Book Week, Science Week & More!
Exciting events are coming up this term! Book Week is just around the corner, and our Book Parade is always a highlight. Stay tuned for more information about Sceince Week and many other activities via COMPASS.
Bugs & Lurgies
Like many schools right now, we’ve seen a rise in student illness. Please keep your child at home if they are unwell.
100 Days of Prep!
Congratulations to our Prep students who are celebrating their 100th day of school! It’s been a joy to see their growth over the first half of the year. They’ve adapted beautifully, and we can’t wait to see what they’ll achieve next. Thank you to the Fou
Every Day Counts
Families of students with concerning attendance levels will have received an email recently. These are not meant to punish, but to open up a conversation about how we can work together to improve your child’s attendance.
Every day really does count—for learning, for friendships, and for routines. If your child is sick, of course, keep them home. But once they’re well, please return them to school quickly. And if you’re planning a family holiday, we encourage you to try to book during term breaks where possible.
Curriculum Contributions – Your Support Matters
Thank you to families who have already made this year’s Curriculum Contributions. These funds help us provide the rich learning experiences our students deserve. At just $200 per year , it’s vital support for a school that, unfortunately, receives less equity funding than others in our region. Please speak with our office team if you need assistance.
