Term 3 - Empathy
Many of the TRP/RRRR lessons in Term 3 focus on Empathy.
When participating in EMPATHY lessons, students will learn how to show empathy towards others facing challenges. They will learn about the acronym ACT: ‘acknowledge’ the challenge, ‘be a companion’ by listening attentively, and ‘talk’ with them. These strategies help us support and empathise with others during difficult times. Developing empathy helps us to identify, understand and feel what another person is feeling. When we practise empathy by doing something kind for someone else, our brain releases oxytocin. This results in an increase in our self-esteem, confidence, energy levels, positivity and overall happiness.
In order to understand being EMPATHETIC, children must be able to notice small gestures from others.
Use this GEM chat card below, the help your child understand the meaning of small kind gestures.
We are always grateful to Rochester Community House for their vision of bringing TRP to our community.
