Sustainability @ TPPS

We have had a very exciting start to Term 3 in Sustainability!
Firstly, a HUGE congratulations and thank you to all of our wonderful Grade 5 students and their families for raising so much money for our platypus fundraiser last term.
Platypuses
In Term 2, Week 9, Year Fives took on a challenge to save platypuses. The challenges were push-ups, planks, running, a spelling test and reading a classic poem about a platypus.
In total, we raised $1424.10!
We sent the money to a foundation called WWF Adopt a Platypus, and because we raised over $180, we get to learn a platypus’ name and get updates on how it is going.
Thank you to Ms Conn who organised the event, and to all the families who supported us!

This week we had a special surprise visit from some local wildlife - a Southern Brown Tree Frog was found in the breezeway near the toilets, looking a little bit lost. Grade 1FB rescued it from being squashed by any big feet and put it in a box.
Radin helped to identify it using our animal identification guide for this area.
We relocated it to a safe place and hope it is enjoying its new home!
Thank you so much to our crew of dedicated volunteers who cared for the chickens so well over the winter holidays. The hens looked like they really enjoyed all the visits, and we hope you got some delicious eggs for your trouble!
It was a big day for the hens on Monday. They had their annual check up at the vet!
Katie, Jax, Xavier and Alex helped to pop them in their carriers for the drive. We cleverly used delicious chicken treats to lure them into the boxes!
These chickens have only ever been in the car once before - but are very well-behaved travellers! All we could hear was pock, pock, pock in the back, the sound of them pecking up all the seeds.
When we got to the vet, each hen was weighed and checked all over, and have been given a clean bill of health!
