FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Message from the Relieving Principal
Welcome back to Term 3 at Inverell High School! It is hard to believe we are already into the second half of 2025. I am honoured to be stepping into the role of Relieving Principal for the first three weeks of this term, and again at the end of the term. During this period, Mrs Cheryl Hawkins will be relieving me as Deputy Principal, and Mrs Paola Cabitza will be taking on the role of Head Teacher English.
Head Teacher Inclusive Education Centre
I would also like to extend our warm congratulations to Johanna Jane, who was successful in attaining the permanent Head Teacher position in the Inclusive Education Centre (IEC). This is a fantastic achievement, and we are confident Johanna will continue to lead and support the IEC with great passion and expertise.
Senior Students
This term holds great significance for our senior students. For Year 12, this is their final term at Inverell High School before they embark on their HSC examinations. We wish them every success as they continue to work hard and prepare for this important milestone.
Our Year 11 students are also approaching a major transition, with this term being their last before moving into the HSC course. Their effort and focus now will set the foundation for their final year of schooling.
Attendance Matters
For all students, starting the term well is key. Attendance matters – students cannot achieve their best if they are not at school. We ask families and carers to support students in attending every day and arriving on time. Five minutes late is still five minutes missed learning. Equally important is the effort students bring to their learning. Success is not about achieving an ‘A’, it’s about applying themselves, asking for help when needed, and striving to become better versions of themselves each day.
Students Shining
Inverell High School continues to shine across education, sport, the arts and cultural events. We are proud of the ongoing contributions of programs such as STARS and Clontarf, particularly their involvement in the school’s NAIDOC art submission, which beautifully celebrated culture and creativity. We also acknowledge the exceptional work of Mrs Alexander and the Aboriginal Dance group, whose performances at multiple venues continue to showcase our school’s cultural strength and pride.
Student Leaders Induction Ceremony
This week, we were delighted to induct our new Student Representative Council (SRC) and the Junior AECG for the 2025/2026 period. Both groups play an important role in representing student voice and cultural leadership within our school. We look forward to seeing the ideas, initiatives and positive impact they will bring to our community.
Trial Examinations
Year 12 students will soon commence their Trial HSC examinations in Week 3, continuing through to the end of Term 4. We wish them success and remind families that if a student is unwell on an exam day, the school must be contacted in line with our procedures. Please do not hesitate to reach out to the school if support is needed during this critical period.
Education Week
Next week also marks an exciting occasion as we celebrate Education Week. Schools from across our Sapphire Community of Schools will come together to recognise the achievements of students, staff and community members. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the collective successes of our school community.
I look forward to working alongside our dedicated staff, students and families throughout Term 3. Together, let’s make this a term of growth, achievement and pride for Inverell High School.
