Even though we have now entered week 5, welcome back to the Senior School for Term 3.
Last term was a particularly busy, ending with exams and our Year 11 and 12 Koonung formal. The Senior School Team was extremely proud of how our students handled themselves at both of these events. The respectful way that the students behaved towards each other and their peers during the exams was a great example of excellence through endeavour in allowing each student to do their best. Additionally, our senior students had an enjoyable night of dancing to finish off the eleven week term in style! A big thank you to the formal committee and the senior team on their organisation and ensuring its success (photos below).
The first three weeks of this term saw all Year 9, 10 and 11 students go through the pivotal process of selecting subjects for next year. Thank you to all of the parents and staff who worked closely with the students to counsel, guide and discuss their selections. We know it has been a source of motivation for many Year 10 students and we encourage them to use the final Semester to diligently prepare for the significant step up to VCE.
Therefore, the Year 10s have made a strong start to this term; beginning new electives and settling into new classes with different classmates and teachers. Our Year 11s are currently well into Unit 2 and will have a stronger understanding as to what their final year of VCE will look like.
As of next week, our Year 12s have less than seven weeks to go of new content in their secondary school education. It is pleasing to see greater numbers of them utilising the Senior Centre for quiet study during school and after and we encourage these study groups to continue as the final rounds of assessments take place over the next few weeks. The message was further reinforced in a session Mr McNeil presented to the students that promoted finding a balance, prioritising study and enjoying this special time. It was excellent to see this cohort connectedness in a competitive game of trivia last week hosted by Ms Hanslow and the students are looking forward to this throughout the term. Finally, we encourage the students to utilise the expertise of the careers team as VTAC applications are made throughout the term.
As always, please reach out to the senior team if you have any questions.

Prior to the term break, our VCE students enjoyed a fun night where the cohort could forget about their studies and enjoy catching up over a delicious meal and hitting the dance floor. Here are a few snapshots from the evening...
This excursion comprises both an observation of court sessions at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court and also a visit to Lander & Rogers (leading Australian civil law firm) for their "Landers World of Work" program. This is a careers-oriented seminar including an office tour. The excursion provided important context and experiential learning experiences in relation to the Year 12 Legal Studies curriculum, including the role of the courts, key personnel in the court system, and responsibilities of legal practitioners in the justice system.
