Year 10 3D Art
In Year 10 3D Art, students commenced their Appropriation Artwork assessment. The class have explored artists they like and found artworks they are going to appropriate, parodying the style or subject matter of these works to convey new ideas to audiences.
Students have additionally been experimenting with materials, techniques and processes to create mock up artworks. Students firstly appropriated the Architectonic heads of Naum Gabo, creating their own in cardboard.
Following the cardboard sculptures, the class had a second workshop focussed on Soft Sculpting. Students spent time working on sewing machines, taking their inspiration from the works of Mirka Mora.
Well done Year 10 students. Keep up the great work!

Artist of the Week
Each week we celebrate the work of enthusiastic artists:
Kerry Xu
Congratulations to Kerry Xu of 9F! Kerry has been selected as a KSC Artist of the Week. Marcus completed this work as part of her studies in 2D Art Class and was nominated for Artist of the Week by her Art Teacher, Mr Henson. The class assessment task was a 'Self Portrait'.
In this task, students explored their identities and personalities to create meaningful representations of self and refine their drawing and painting to create an accurate depiction of their appearance. Kerry has applied her skills exceptionally well through her observations of self, seen in her focussed glance toward the audience. Furthermore, Kerry’s passion for textiles and dressmaking are evident throughout the work, emphasising this integral part of her personality. Great work Kerry!
Please read what Kerry has written to describe her art piece.
This self-portrait shows me in the middle of cutting fabric—something I spend a lot of my time on. I’m sitting next to a mannequin, with a wall behind me covered in my fashion sketches. I chose this scene because it feels real. I’m doing something I love, in my own way. Cutting fabric is a quiet moment, but it’s also where everything starts. For me, it’s that point where an idea begins to turn into something real. The mannequin is still undressed on purpose—it shows the ideas that are still in progress. They’re part of my thinking, planning, and dreaming as a designer. This self-portrait isn’t just about what I look like—it’s also about the space I’ve created for myself in fashion, and how I’ve grown through this journey.
Artist in School program
After months of preparation and submitting a detailed 20-page application back in February 2025, I’m thrilled to say our proposal was successful – what a win!
The project will bring together Year 9 Art students to design and create a vibrant mural that blends creativity, community spirit, and student development. This collaborative artwork will be installed on the rear external wall of the library – a location that will not only brighten and enhance our school grounds, but also strengthen the connection to one of our most important learning spaces.
Through this project, students will engage deeply with the arts, develop new skills, and contribute to a lasting legacy that reflects both our school community and our connection to the environment.
Project Overview: Roots of Knowledge
We would like to introduce George Manioudakis, a talented and experienced artist, to guide the students in creating a mural that reflects both their artistic vision and the theme of nature. The mural will be painted on the external patio wall facing the inside of the library, offering a beautiful and inspiring backdrop for students and staff alike.
This project is designed to be collaborative. Year 9 Art students will lead the project by working directly on the mural, while also conducting workshops for other students. These workshops will focus on techniques and concepts related to nature-based art, providing opportunities for students to learn about different artistic processes and contribute their ideas to the overall design.
7G Art: Still Life - Harmonious and Complementary Colours
7G have been creating preliminary still life drawings, experimenting with harmonious and complementary colour schemes to bring their compositions to life. Students have discovered how colour relationships can set the mood, create balance, or make elements pop — with some stunning early results!
Year 7C Still Life Studies
Our Year 7 Visual Arts students have been sharpening their observation skills through still life drawing. Working with arrangements of everyday objects, they have explored proportion, perspective, shading, and composition to bring their drawings to life. The contour to scale drawings and creative interpretations shows just how much talent is blossoming in our young artists!
🖋 Year 9 Pen & Ink FANTASY AT - Visualisation drawings masterpieces
Our Year 9 Art students have been exploring the intricate world of pen and ink illustration, developing skills in line work, cross-hatching, stippling, and scumbling. Each piece demonstrates the students’ creativity, patience, and attention to detail — transforming simple black ink into striking, textured artworks. The results are a testament to their growing artistic confidence and flair!
Artspace
Hey everyone!! Welcome back to term 3!! Brush up on the news as we draw on new activities together, frame by frame. So far this term, we’ve made marbling pieces with ink and shaving foam. How marble-ous! In honour of culture week, we branched out to create stamps with leaves. Piece by piece, we began mosaic works, gluing together colourful tiles.
Stay tuned for more Artspace activities and follow @kscartspace on Instagram.
Poster Club
This year, we’ve established a new club where students have the opportunity to create posters for our school. This helps develop their visual communication and collaborative skills that they can use in their VCE years. Thank you to our creative team: Kian Shafaie, Gwen Mander and Vista Kalhori!! Here are some of the works we’ve created so far.
