Year 3/4 Learning Reflection

Welcome back to all!
We hope students had a restful break and are ready for another exciting term ahead.
In Reading, this week, students have been integrating fluency material about Our First Nations People's. Wow! There is so much history and culture to be learnt.
We have also begun our new serial read, 'Yirra and her deadly dog, Demon'. This text is a humorous and energetic story about a young girl, Yirra, and her mischievous dog, Demon. Yirra's family is at their wit's end because Demon's boundless energy is causing chaos: her mum is tired of the fur balls, the neighbors are missing their laundry, and her step-dad just wants his slippers back. If Yirra can't find a dog trainer soon, she might have to give Demon away. The book offers a contemporary look at urban Indigenous life in Sydney through a funny and heartwarming lens, according to multiple book retailers.
In Sentence Level Writing, Year 3 students have been learning about the 4 sentence types; Statement, Question, Command and Exclamation. Ask them to share some examples with you.
Year 4's have been working on run-on sentences. This is occurs when two or more independent clauses are joined without proper punctuation or conjunctions.
Example; "The cat sat on the mat it was a fluffy cat." "The cat sat on the mat. It was a fluffy cat."
In Numeracy, Year 3 students have been learning about interpreting multiplication and division worded problems using the strategy of CUBES. Circling the important numbers, underlining the question, boxing the keywords, evaluating what steps are needed to solve the problem and solving and finally checking the problem.
Year 4's have been learning about multiplying using the algorithm with and without regrouping.
Finally, in Unit of Work, our topic is First Nations People's. We have investigated the difference between a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement and will delve further into culture and history across the term.
