Read With Me / Leggi con me
A very special grazie di cuore to our wonderful Foundation parents and carers who have come into the classroom to leggere con noi! It has been so lovely to see our students sharing books and enjoying special reading time with their families. Your support helps foster a love of reading and makes such a positive difference to your child’s learning.
This week, we have been practising how to be a great reading partner. We use “elbow to elbow, knee to knee – gomito a gomito, ginocchio a ginocchio” to help us sit comfortably with our reading partner and share the book together. We have also been practising our “I read to you and you read to me / Io leggo a te e tu leggi a me” routine. This means taking turns, listening carefully to our partner and helping each other when we get stuck on a word.
We had a visita speciale from our Year 3/4 students, who came into Foundation to read with us. Our students loved sharing books with their older buddies, and it was wonderful to see our Year 3/4 students being such positive reading role models.
Book Week / Settimana del Libro
For Settimana del Libro, we had lots of fun celebrating our love of books! We enjoyed seeing everyone dressed up as their favourite personaggi dei libri. It was wonderful to see the creativity and excitement as our students shared who they had dressed up as and talked about their favourite stories. During Settimana del Libro/ Book Week, we were also very excited to welcome the children from The Learning Sanctuary Kinder into our classroom. Our Foundation students loved sharing stories and books with our kinder visitors. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our love of reading together.
Subtraction/ Sottrazione.
In Maths/Matematica, we are learning about subtraction/sottrazione. We are learning that when we take away objects from a group, the number becomes smaller.
Here are some ways to support your child at home:
1. Use everyday objects:
Give your child a small group of objects, such as blocks, toys or buttons. Ask them to take some away and count how many are left. For example: “We have 8 blocks. Take 3 away. How many are left?”
2. Practise at the shops: When you are shopping, choose a small number of items and practise taking away. For example: “We have 6 apples in our trolley. If we put 2 back, how many do we have now?”
3. Practise with food: Use snacks or food at home to make subtraction meaningful. For example: “There are 7 crackers. If we eat 2, how many are left?”
