All students attending St Louis de Montfort's Aspendale have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.

The Feast of the Assumption, celebrated on August 15th,  signals the end of Mary's earthly life and marks her journey to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. While the bodies of both Jesus and Mary are now in heaven, there is a difference between the Assumption and the Resurrection. Where Jesus arose from the tomb and ascended into heaven by his own power, Mary's body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son.  It is this great love that Jesus showed for his mother that we celebrate at this feast.

Mary’s life and death are a wonderful example of praise and thanksgiving to God.

Luke's Gospel presents us with Mary's song of praise:

Mary said:  ‘My heart praises the Lord;

My soul is glad because of God my saviour,

For he has remembered me, his lowly servant!

From now on all people will call me happy,

Because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me.

His name is holy;

From one generation to another he shows mercy to those who honour him.

He has stretched out his mighty arm and scattered the proud with all their plans

He has brought down mighty kings from their thrones,

And lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,

And sent the rich away with empty hands.

He has kept the promise he made to our ancestors,

And has come to the help of his servant Israel

He has remembered to show mercy to Abraham

And to all his descendants for ever.’

On Tuesday 15th August our Year4-6 students celebrated Mass whilst the Year P-3 students celebrated a liturgy with their class. In these celebrations, students learnt that

Mary is very special because she was chosen by God to be the mother of God’s son, Jesus. And Mary says yes to all that God asks of her. We are asked to praise God for the wonderful things that he has done and given to us.

We  pray to be more like Mary so we can show love to those who are poor, lonely, sad or suffering so that we can make the world a better place. We pray to be  just like Mary, the mother of Jesus, in her love and devotion to God, and like Mary, we can say ‘YES’ to God’s  call.
