Principal message

Dear community of St Monica's,

I feel like I may have missed the event of the year being away last Friday. It was for a good cause- my niece's wedding but I was sorry to have missed the wonderful cultural day. The photos tell an amazing story of community and hospitality. I pass on my heartfelt thanks to all who dressed up, made posters and above all provided food for our community. Big thanks to Bron who coordinated the event for our school community. (Photos on the photo gallery page).

There has been a variety of events across the classrooms and in the library celebrating Book Week, the parade this morning was definitely a highlight! It was so amazing to see such a big turnout of dressed up students a families who came to watch the parade. It was spectacular weather for it too! Everyone looked amazing, a big thank you to our families who came up with such wonderful creations, to all our teachers and support staff for their enthusiasm and to Mr Gane for being our music maestro. I hope everyone had fun as we celebrated Book Week. Photos can be found on the photo gallery.

Next Tuesday we will have our Book Swap to raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

Next week our fire carriers will be attending the Diocesan mass for the start of the season of creation. If your child is a fire carrier you will find a permission form in their bag today.

We have Fathers Day to celebrate at the end of next week with the Fathers day stall on Thursday and the Fathers Day gathering on Friday morning. Please see the dates to remember page for more information. Next week is also a week of excursions for 3/4 to Ulumbarra Theatre and 1/2s who are going on a local walk.

The division basketball will take place on Friday for those who qualified.

The week after, the preps are off to Bendigo pottery and the 5/6s will participate in the Festival of the Sacred. Please see school sports day for students reports on athletics day and Catholic athletics.

Our students are certainly getting out and about to have shared experiences that they can bring to their class work. Thank you to our teachers who have planned these experiences for our students.

It was pleasure to be present at the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday evening. Thank you to Fr Brian and Fr DJ for their reflective, calm approach to this beautiful sacrament of healing. For photos please see Catholic Identity page.

I leave you with the words of I am the river by Andrew Chinn which will be sung at the Mass of creation-

'I am the river and the river is me.

And I flow from the mountain, through the valley to the sea

As I roll and I wander and sing life's song

The river runs deep and the river runs strong

Water of life, the work of God's hand

Gift of creation running through the land

River of life with water so pure

Gift from God giving life anew.'

Warm Regards
