Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA)
Yesterday our Grade 10 students attended RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness), a program that provides students with the tools and understanding they need to see themselves as active, responsible road citizens. Taking a student inquiry learning approach, RYDA provides students with the tools, habits and motivation to take action and stay safe on our roads as both drivers and passengers throughout their lives. Our students enjoyed the engaging workshops whilst understanding more about road safety. The workshop sessions were led by a team of trained facilitators, including Police, driving instructors and other community sector specialists.

Humanities Cupcake Competition - Everything you knead to know!
Entrants in this year's Humanities Week Cupcake Competition know that life is 'batter' with cake. It was far from a crumby event as every entry rose to the occasion. In Grade 8 there was nothing trashy about Emily Behrens' entry which won best taste, with Charlotte Brooks' monstrous offering winning best appearance. Fiona Buruzukrindhi in Grade 9 created some marvellous muffins with mighty mousse winning both the taste and appearance sections. Grade 10 was a hotly contested character-driven category: Naomi, Ana, Abbie and Lachie brought us Avatar to win the appearance section; and Phoebe, Eliana, Jenna, and Hannah were awarded best taste with Pooh. The judges in the Humanities and Languages staffroom note that not every early lady-bird gets the worm, but applaud the principled principal-modelling offered.

SCC Salvo's Sleepout for Homelessness - Friday 15 September
Did you know on any given night, over 122,494 people are experiencing homelessness in Australia? Homelessness affects people all year round. On Friday 15 September, the College is organising a sleepout on the school outdoor basketball court. This sleepout is a way to help our students empathise with the experience of homelessness. This involves sleeping away from home with limited resources or without the availability of comforts such as a bed. We wish to raise awareness and much-needed funds to help those less fortunate. We are encouraging Secondary students to get uncomfortable for a night in solidarity for those who have no choice and spend their night away from somewhere safe.
We invite Secondary students to come and join us for this special experience. We will have a guest speaker, some soup and bread and fun activities prior to setting up our cardboard mattress and sleeping bag and blanket. The student group will be supervised by school staff. A Consent2Go event invitation will be sent to all Secondary parents. Our limit for student numbers for this event is 50.
