Science Investigations

Grade 4/5 Banham/Richardson students enjoyed the different activities and ideas that could be explored during National Science week so we tried our own investigations. It started with one of the lunchtime activities that Dr Klaver organised which was mini air cannons. Our class wanted to see if they could improve on the design by changing different aspects and see what affect it had on the way they worked. We wondered if the air cannons could shoot paper planes out of the air. Sadly, we were unable to create cup sized cannons that were strong enough, so we thought about other ways we could measure the effectiveness of the air cannons. As a class we settled on soap bubbles. We investigated what makes a good bubble mixture, with longer lasting bubbles. We had to mix and compare different ratios of water and dish washing liquid to see which would produce the longest lasting bubbles. It was a fun week of exploration in our classroom.

Migration Museum

The Grade 4/5 students have been learning about migration as part of their Unit of Inquiry. The students have been collecting memorabilia relating to historical figures who arrived in Australia during the Gold Rush in the 1800s. The students have created written accounts of their migration experience in the form of letters to their family and acrostic poems.

Parents have been invited to visit the Migration Museum today and tomorrow to review the students' displays.

Primary Assembly

Yesterday's Primary Assembly was hosted by Gr 4/5 Banham/Richardson. Students were presented with Reader Certificates - 100 and 200 Nights of Reading. Grade 4/5 Woodberry/Richardson received Courage the Lion.
