Parent School Information Session

The school system can feel overwhelming for many parents, especially for those who grew up outside Australia. As part of our Open Week activities, Southern Christian College is holding an online information session for parents who want to better understand the Australian education system.

We warmly invite any of our current College and Early Learning families and members of the local community to an information session where we will explain some of the key elements of how schools in Australia are organised.

We will over topics such as:

  • What schools teach - understanding the Curriculum
  • The stages of schooling - Kinder to Year 12
  • Types of schools - Public, Private
  • Assessment and reporting, including NAPLAN
  • Communication between parents and the school
  • Learner diversity (including students with English as another language and those with disabilities)
  • Finishing school and post-school options

Please register for the tour here:

Building Works

It was an exciting week for our new classrooms with the slab/roof poured onsite yesterday We are building for the future with the roof becoming a second storey for more classrooms in the future. These classrooms will have a lovely view of Kingston!

CWP Stepping Up

Last Thursday Grade 9 students, Zoe Wigg and Hettie Holland represented Southern Christian College at the CWP Stepping Up day at Parliament House. This was an opportunity to hear from female politicians about what they do and what it means to be a female leader in Tasmania.

Stepping Up is an initiative of the Tasmanian Branch of the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (CWP) and focusses on encouraging and inspiring young women to consider a career in politics or another form of leadership.

Samaritan's Purse Visit

Terry Hampson from Samaritan's Purse came to speak to our Primary students yesterday at Assembly. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse. It is a hands-on way for you to bless children in need across the world by filling shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and fun gifts. We collect the boxes and distribute them in the name of Jesus Christ to children living in vulnerable situations.

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. Terry has left shoebox cartons with information should families wish to take part in this exciting initiative, where our students will have the opportunity to show compassion and share the word of Jesus with other children around the world.

Head Lice (Repeat)

We are continuing to have a number of cases of head lice reported in our Primary classes. To eradicate this annoying and expensive pest, we do need all families to check their children's hair and treat them prior to sending your children back to school. Treatment is not a one off fix - it does need to be repeated to make sure they are gone. Please check your child’s hair today!
