Year 10 work experience

Year 10 students will be undertaking Work Experience during Week 10 of this term (Monday 11 September to Friday 15 September).

If students have not already collected their Work Experience form from Mr Browne, they need to do so as soon as possible.

If students are unable to attend their work experience placement on any of the days in that week (for example, due to illness), it is important that this is communicated to both the employer and the school.

We wish the Year 10s all the best for their week of work!

Year 11 Gold Coast Camp

From 14 to 18 August, a group of 50 Year 11s and 6 teachers flew up to the sunny state of Queensland for their Gold Coast Camp.

Monday (Survivor) - Trivia

On Monday, we had to meet in front of the school at 5am, and while that was such an early time for the whole group, everyone seemed eager and excited to head off to the airport. After arriving in the Gold Coast, we participated in Survivor. While we were all tired and adjusting to the hot weather, it was a great opportunity to get closer to the other students on the camp. As everyone was settling into their cabins, we had a trivia night after dinner that featured seven rounds and some very interesting minute-to-win-it challenges. My personal favourite was “Guess the teacher’s forehead” as it really showed how well some of us could recognise our teachers just from their foreheads, and you would be surprised at how many of us did!

Wet and Wild - Movie Night - Coles run

We started Tuesday bright and early ready to visit Wet ‘n’ Wild - the first of the three theme parks we would go to over the week, and it was an adrenaline-packed day filled with water slides, wave pools and hot springs. With our swimsuits on and sunscreen applied (thanks teachers for the reminder), many of us tried the various water slides the park had to offer such as the Kaboom, Black Hole and the Kamikaze. Some of us were even brave enough to go on the Aqua Loop, a slide which opened up from under you, dropping you into freezing cold water. We screamed, laughed, and splashed our way through the day, cooling off from the Gold Coast heat. And while it rained towards the end of our time at Wet ‘n’ Wild, it didn’t dampen our moods as later that day, a group of us headed to Coles to buy food for our cabins and for the movie night at the cinema in Harbour Town! It was a jam-packed day to kick off our theme park experience and we all couldn’t wait to see what Seaworld would bring!

Seaworld - Matilda's - free time

The next day, we headed to Sea World, where we had the opportunity to meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, experience thrilling rides such as the Jet Ski Rescue and the Vortex, meet the sea animals, touch stingrays, and visit an array of shows. The stunt show and dolphin show left us all breathless but the highlight of the day was definitely the Jet Ski Rescue. The ride threw us all over the place, experiencing speeds of 70km/hr, and what made it more fun for all of us was being able to hear Ms Stevens scream on it before we went on it ourselves. So many carnival games were won that day that the bus was filled with giant stuffed animals, with many of us even giving them names. That night, we had free time at the holiday park or watched the Matilda's game on the big screen at the resort before heading off to our cabins ready for our final theme park.

Movie world - shopping

Movie World was definitely a highlight for most of us as there was just so much for us to do! As we got there when the park opened, everyone rushed towards the most anticipated rides - Superman or DC Rivals. It was really funny seeing the teachers on Superman before us, with some of them even being nervous and screaming their hearts out. It was even more shocking to see Mr Kenton, Ms Stevens and Ms Fusinato riding on DC Rivals backwards because going on DC Rivals forwards was scary enough! We all laughed seeing our photos taken on the rides where we either looked terrified or excited, or a mixture of both, and had fun posing with the various characters throughout the day. And we definitely won’t forget the stress of rushing to meet the teachers at the end of the day since a lot of us decided to go for a final ride on the Wild West where we were splashed with water. More carnival games were won, and arguably our mascot, ‘Barry the Banana’ became a very memorable part of the trip. We cooled off the day with a trip to the Harbour Town Premium Outlet for a round of shopping, and getting ready to pack our bags for the flight home.

Wildlife Santuary

Finally, our last day in the Gold Coast arrived and we were all really disappointed to leave what was such a fun experience. We headed to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where we saw so many native Australian animals such as Tasmanian Devils, Echidnas, Koalas and a Saltwater Crocodile! There was even a mini train to take us to different parts of the sanctuary that we all enjoyed going on.

Overall, the Gold Coast camp was a perfect getaway from stressful school work, and we will all definitely treasure the memories and bonds made with each other on this trip!
