Book Week 2023

Book Week 2023 was a thriving success at EDSC last week.

Students and staff enjoyed a week of events, fun and prizes created around the 2023 Book Week theme of Read, Grow, Inspire.

A highlight of Book Week was the Mystery Reader activity, with some of our amazing staff reading in the schoolyard at lunchtime while students hunted for them.

All students who successfully found the Mystery Readers received a lolly reward and got to enter the second chance draw. Over 1,000 entries were received for the draw!

Tuesday was a blur of colour and creativity with students and staff dressing up as their favourite book characters. Congratulations to the Costume Day prize winners:

  • First prize – Alex 11C
  • Second prize – Fiona 9J
  • Third prize – Sara 7L
  • Best dressed staff member – Mr Bennett

Students created beautiful quote cards on seed paper in the Library on Wednesday, while many lined up to take classic pics in our photo booth on Thursday.

Every student who borrowed a book on Friday received a lucky dip of an inspirational quote bookmark and a treat.

All Year 7s attended fantastic talks on Friday by Kate Constable, author of their English text Crow Country. Kate was mobbed after each talk by students keen for her to sign their books.

The Library staff loved celebrating Book Week with our reading community and can’t wait until Book Week in 2024!

EDSC Reading Challenge is now closed

Time’s up for entering books in the EDSC Reading Challenge. Well done to all students and staff who entered their books by 30 August.

All students who read 15 or more books should now come to the Library and verify their books if they haven’t already done so.

Students who have verified their 15 books by the end of Term 3 will receive a ticket to our Reading Challenge Pizza Party on Thursday 12 October.

These students will also receive a certificate and EDSC house points.

All prize winners and final reading statistics will be revealed in Term 4, but at last count, EDSC students had read nearly 5,000 books this year!

Congratulations to Jasmyne, 7C who won the final fortnightly $10 canteen voucher prize draw (all students who entered a book into the Reading Challenge were eligible).

We look forward to distributing pizza party tickets to our keen readers soon!

2023 Booklist Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Campion?

Campion is a third party company that EDSC uses to administer our booklist and supply new books to students.

Do I have to buy everything on the list?

You need to buy everything listed for the subjects your student is enrolled in. However, general stationery items such as pens and rulers do not need to be purchased from Campion if you already own these items or can source them elsewhere.

Do I have to buy books through Campion, or can I buy second-hand books elsewhere?

You don’t have to buy the books through Campion. However, there is a risk of buying incorrect editions of textbooks from other parties, as textbooks are revised regularly. If you’d like to buy second-hand books, we recommend buying them through the Sustainable School Shop. This company has been supplied with the EDSC booklist and can help ensure you buy the correct editions.

If you buy a second hand book, you should also check whether you need to purchase a digital code to access any extra online resources required.

Why am I charged $15.95 at the end of my order?

Campion charges a $5.95 processing fee for all orders and orders will also be charged a $10 home delivery fee as due to COVID-19, school delivery and pick-up is unable to take place. However, you may be able to organise order pick-up from Campion by contacting Campion directly.
