As we step into the auspicious Year of the Dragon and celebrate Lunar New Year, the McKie Library is buzzing with excitement and literary adventures.

MAGICAL BOOK LISTS

We've curated captivating dragon-themed book lists and focused our sessions on the magical elements of fantasy. Our shelves are decked with tales of mythical creatures and epic adventures, inviting readers of all ages to embark on enchanting literary journeys.

LIBRARY LOVERS DAY

On February 14, we celebrated Library Lovers Day with a few new initiatives, such as going on a 'Blind Date with a Book'.

Over 50 books found new homes, as readers eagerly embraced the mystery of an unknown literary fate.

Inspired by love and connection, we encouraged readers to share their love for books with friends, family or favourite people through our 'We Go Together Like ...' Challenge.

Borrowing the same book as a loved one is a unique way to create shared reading experiences and deepen connections.

JUNIOR SCHOOL BOOK CLUB

Hosted by Ms Burdon, the Years 5 and 6 Book Club has been meeting on Mondays while the Years 3 and 4 Book Club has been convening on Tuesdays with Ms Carson.

Our students have already brainstormed lots of ideas for activities and initiatives to explore this semester, including creating book displays, issuing and returning books, as well as discussing some wonderful reads.

LIBRARY PROGRAM

This term, our K-6 Library Program is dedicated to helping students identify who they are as readers. We believe in empowering students with the agency to choose their reading material.

Currently, we are promoting our 'Picture Fiction' and 'Mature Picture Fiction' collections. These bite-sized narratives serve as perfect companions for students exploring the world of storytelling, aiding them in developing their own narrative writing skills.

Our Years 7 and 8 Reading Program has had a wonderful start. Every English class begins with 10 minutes of dedicated reading time, following the proven principle that 'little and often' leads to greater success in fostering a love for literature.

Students are supported during these Library sessions to find the ‘just right’ book through one-on-one conversations with our friendly staff, as well as mini-lessons on how to access our online catalog, refine searches, reserve books and customise ebooks.

LUNCHTIME IN THE LIBRARY

Exciting news! We've recently added new games to our collection, and a big shout-out to Jenny Stephens, our Year 6 Library Leader, for facilitating game sessions every Wednesday.

In addition, we've hosted some engaging craft activities to celebrate and support Lunar New Year.

Our library is more than just books – it's a warm and inviting space where all students are encouraged to come, whether to read, study, or simply escape the heat of the day and relish in a quieter environment.
