Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 3, Term 1

🌈 WHAT AN AMAZING START TO 2024

Our 3/4 students are really getting into the swing of things, establishing routines and a positive classroom community.

🌱 LEADERSHIP ROLES

Student Voice, Green Team and ICT Representatives will be selected this week. All students have had an opportunity to write and present a short presentation or speech.

WEEK 3 LEARNING

📚 LITERACY

Reading

This week we will be exploring the strategies of Visualisation and Making Connections (Text to Self, Text to Text, Text to World). We will be reading a variety of fictional texts that tie into our CBL topic of Community.

What you can do at home:

We encourage every child to read for a minimum of four nights a week. It would be a great idea to ask your child about the connections they made when reading.

Writing

We will be finishing off our start of the year assessment, for spelling and dictation. Students will use the text 'Dear Street' to inspire their own letters to our WPPS community. We will introduce the editing strategy of 'Call the COPS' (Capitals, Organisation, Punctuation and Spelling) before publishing our letters.

What you can do at home:

Write a letter with your child and discuss its structure.

🎲 NUMERACY

In Maths this week, we will continue to build a positive mathematical mindset and normalise productive struggle and being brave enough to embrace mistakes.  We will be exploring Place Value through games and small group activities, sharing strategies and celebrating success.

What you can do at home:

Encourage your child to find numbers in your house and discuss the order of the digits. Ask you child about the games they have been playing in class and get them to teach and play with your family.
