Junior School P.E

The focus of the P.E lessons with the junior school has been on taking turns and using the equipment safely. Needless to say they are loving the variety in rotation style activities which allows them more opportunities to practise their fundamental movement skills.

Casey Netball Clinics

Year 4, 5 and 6 students loved having Danielle and Bree from Casey Netball at the school to conduct a clinic. They were very impressed with the way all students engaged in the lesson with a particular highlight the way they adapted during game play.

It is safe to say we will be entering multiple teams for the Casey Netball Cup in term 3.

Division Swimming

A big well done to Sienna H and Magnolia O who represented the District at Noble Park Aquatic Centre. We are all so proud of you and cant wait to see what the future holds for you both in the pool.

Little Athletics Clinics

In Week 8 all students in years 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 got to participate in a Little Athletics clinic run by Coach Rob from Little Athletics Victoria. The students learnt new techniques to help them with running, jumping and throwing which they can also implement across other sports.

The way in which they listened and put into play feedback received relating to running techniques was a pleasure to watch.

Foundation

The foundation students have been exploring their emotions through stories and actions. We have acted out the emotions that the Very Hungry Caterpillar experiences, as well as playing some games to see how our bodies change when we feel happy, sad, angry or excited.

Junior and Middle School

Years 1-4 have continued to talk about the Zones of Regulation. We have been talking about what things can make us feel a certain emotion, such as playing with friends we are happy, or having a late night can make us feel tired. We have talked about how to recognise our body is feeling this way.

Senior School

Years 5 and 6 have also been discussing the zones, but focusing on our behaviours and how they affect those around us. We've discussed what are the appropriate ways to act when we are in the classroom or in the yard and how the expected behaviours are different. We've also looked at what happens when the people around us don't act as we were expecting them to act and what that does to our emotions and our nervous system.

Harmony Day

Thursday 21 March was Harmony Day. Students took part in activities in their classroom or with their buddies to discuss our differences, our similarities and the importance of being accepting of all. The students will continue to expand their knowledge of different cultures in our first Murrup day for the year on Wednesday 27 March as they rotate through a variety of activities involving dance, games, art and the Lunar New Year. The students will also be given the opportunity to try a bit of sushi on the day as well.

Congratulations to all the students who had their work on exhibition at the Red Hill Show. You certainly did us proud!

It was a wonderful surprise to see that our whole school collaborative artwork received Second Prize in the group artwork section. Well done to the students from Year 1-6 and staff who all added their little piece of art to this project and thankyou to the House Captains for putting it all together.

Please take a moment to look through our student's artwork from the show, they are beyond amazing!!

Easter Bonnets

In Week  8 we made Easter Headbands in Art. I can't wait to see them all on display at the parade next week!

I'm Not Just a Scribble- Foundation

Read it here: https://youtu.be/pKbnWVoUvks

Students listened to and watched this story and designed their own Scribble Character. Check these out hanging up in the Foundation Foyer!

Colour and Texture- Year 1/2

We have learned our primary colours through song, dance and art! Students have practised mixing primary colours to make secondary colours. Check out our colour wheel eyes!

We also looked at texture and completed some really creative, funny and scary texture monsters!

Foam Printmaking- Year 3/4

Students have designed a cityscape and created a foam stamp. Then they used the foam stamp to take multiple prints of their cityscape to be made into a collage.

Reverse Acetate Portraits- Year 5/6

We have created our sgraffito backgrounds and begun our portraits but we need more time to finish them!

Foundation- Junior School

Students really enjoyed taking photos of each other with an iPad and learning to edit their pictures through the camera app. They learnt how to crop, change their photo to black and white and add embellishments with the drawing tool. Just look at their creations!!

We have also been learning how to be safe online. We watched a video and practised being safe by navigating the Melbourne Zoo website.

Nature Play

Sometimes all you need is a simple activity. One that requires a little bit of concentration like rock stacking. The students were so engaged in this task,

trying to find balance points and flat spots that allow the rocks to settle, one atop the other. What’s more, it helps with coordination and patience, watching them try and try again, really looking at each rocks attributes to see if it would work was a joy. Teamwork was another hit with this activity it was lovely to see the students support each other in their quest to the highest stack.

Kitchen/Garden

All about the biscuits, in the last couple of weeks students have been busy baking. 4B made Lemon Myrtle Butter Biscuits, the lemon myrtle was picked from our Indigenous Garden, dried and crushed to use in this recipe. Lemon Myrtle is so aromatic and can be used for a variety of purposes. For thousands of years, the First Australians favoured plant in their cuisine and medicine. Early examples include cooking with the leaves wrapped in paperbark to flavour fish dishes; and crushing and inhaling the leaves as a calmative and to treat headaches.

4A made ANZAC cookies with a bit of a twist, we substituted the golden syrup with honey and I think I actually prefer the honey ones. We also had a discussion about what ANZAC stands for and why they don’t contain egg. It is interesting to note that at first the biscuits were called Soldiers' Biscuits, but after the landing on Gallipoli, they were renamed ANZAC Biscuits.

Environmental Science

Senior students have been busy  drawing plans and now building their model houses ready to drop the lights in. Their task has been to plan, build and construct a model house with at least two light switches that light up independently of each other. We have been experimenting with tin foil to see if can work in the circuit instead of using wire. Watch this space for photos.
