DEPUTY PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS CATHERINE HOWISON - DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Getting back into a routine

It was such a lovely sight to see our school community gathered on Thursday morning at our welcoming Assembly. I hope that everyone had a good holiday break, whether that involved travel, relaxing or simply sleeping in! We have started the Term well and I spoke to our students about the need to move back into a routine. The holidays are by nature more flexible but now that the school Term has started, setting and maintaining positive habits and a good routine are important. Our behavior should be anchored by our College Community Expectations

  • We are on time and ready to learn.
  • We always follow staff instructions.
  • We all use appropriate language.
  • We respect ourselves, others and our learning environment.
  • We are responsible for our own behaviour.

A few important points at the start of the year:

Mobile phones - should be locked in lockers by 8.53 am. Our Mobile Phone policy outlines that while phones can be brought to school they must be secured in lockers and should not be taken to class unless under the direction of the teacher.

Hand in hand with mobile phones are the AirPods. Students should not be walking around school with AirPods in their ears.

Hats - every student should have a school hat with them at recess and lunch in Term 1 & 4. If they are sitting in the shade then of course, they do not need to wear the hat however when students are in the sun they must protect themselves and their future health by wearing a hat. Hats are available for sale at the Front Office or Clarks.

Uniform - All students should be wearing the ‘new’ uniform. It was wonderful to see our students dressed so well in the correct uniform on the first day of school, it will be even more wonderful to see this continue.

Change in lesson times - This year we have a new timetable configuration and the day looks slightly different. It will no doubt take a little getting used to however if we all do our best to stay on track I am sure that we will adapt. One important thing for students to remember is to take their books for Lesson 1 and 2 after Homeroom and then Lesson 3 and 4 after recess.

Chewing Gum - this has become quite a problem at school. The problem comes when students dispose of gum under desks, seats, onto lockers and onto the ground. It is unsightly and unhygienic. It causes damage and takes extra time for others to clean up. Students should not be chewing gum at school.

School Photographs - these will take place on Wednesday 7th February in the morning. All students should be in regular uniform, not PE uniform. Students who have PE on Wednesday should bring their PE gear with them to change into. This year all ordering will be online. An Operoo has been sent home with the details however if there are any problems with the process, please contact the school. Family orders close on the 6th of February at 4:00pm.

We are looking forward to an exciting and productive year and we are grateful to be back together as a community.
