FAITH MATTERS
MS ALISON WRIGHT - DIRECTOR OF FAITH & MISSION
A warm welcome back to everyone this year.
Our faith proclaims us to respect the dignity of all people. This is a foundational moral principle in our society and indeed, our world.
Our school theme this year of Intentional Inclusivity calls us to be people who acknowledge, respect, and include all people. As a school community, we will become ever more aware of our values of respect, generosity, dignity, reverence, compassion, and forgiveness in a very real way, growing together in faith, hope, and love of God and of those we encounter each day. Through prayer, liturgical celebrations, and our day-to-day actions, this year, we all need to work together to live out this theme.
Ash Wednesday is on February 14th. We will join together for a short service in homerooms. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of the Catholic Church’s season of Lent, a time where, for forty days, we commit ourselves to fasting, prayer, and good works.
On February 21st - 23rd, Year 12 students will attend a Retreat in Halls Gap. As their final year at our College begins, it is an opportunity for them all to ‘retreat’ from normal life and focus within. The retreat is a time for them to reflect spiritually on their journey so far and prepare for the year ahead. My thanks, in advance, to the staff attending.
Lord Jesus, we ask for Your help as we begin this new school year.
Allow us to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before us.
Open our eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings.
Open our hearts and minds to new friends and new teachers.
Give us a generous spirit to be enthusiastic in everything we do and the courage to accept new opportunities.
Help us to be attentive to those around us and let us experience Your presence in our new friends. Jesus, inspire me to do my best this year! Amen.
Jesus light of the world, guide us
St Joseph, journey with us
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us.
