Brooke George - Health and Physical Education

Welcome everyone to the Sports Report for 2024! My name is Brooke George and I am the Sports Coordinator at Diamond Valley College.

Each fortnight I will be sharing a “Sports Report” with you where I will:

  • List up and Coming Dates of Sporting Events
  • Advertise trial and training dates
  • Share successes and stories from events
  • Ask for volunteers if needed.

Term 1 Sport

Term 1 is notoriously busy with sports days as we hold our House Carnival for Swimming (as well as Division and Region Swimming) and Interschool Sport starting up.

Dates of Importance

  • Thursday 15th Feb – Senior Sport Round Robin (Cricket, Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball)
  • Tuesday 20th Feb – Year 7 Cricket Round Robin
  • Friday 23th Feb – House Swimming Carnival – Whole School event
  • Friday 1st March – Nillumbik/Banyule Division Swimming Sports
  • Tuesday 26thth March – Year 7 Sport Round Robin (Baseball/Softball, Tennis, Volleyball)
  • Thursday 27th March - Northern Metropolitan Regional Swimming Finals

HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

On Friday 23th February all students and staff will be heading to Aquarena Aquatic and Leisure Centre for the house swimming carnival.

The DVC House swimming carnival allows students to compete in age group swimming and novelty events. Participation is the main focus where students will earn points that accumulate for their allocated house.

On the serious side, students who win or perform at the appropriate level will advance to the Division swimming carnival (Nillumbik/ Banyule) on Friday 1st March. This year we are hoping to continue the success we had last year with a strong team competing in all events.

In addition to the swimming events, there are quite a few other activities for the students and staff to get involved in such as our fashion parade, face painting, beach volleyball, the waterslide and a bombing competition or just time to relax and with friends.

There are 4 houses: Wilson (yellow/gold), Hubbard (red), Bass (green) and Peers (blue). We encourage students and staff to dress up in their house colours. Each student can see which house they are in by logging on to their Compass page and clicking on their name.

This is a whole school event, where all students and teaching staff are required to attend. It’s an enjoyable day and a great way for us all to have some fun, get to know each other a bit better and develop our school culture.

Each student requires consent to be off school grounds. This can be done online through your Compass account. Go to the event and follow the instruction to give consent and payment. If you have any questions regarding consent or payment, please contact the General Office on 9438 1411.

2023 Sports & House Captains

The role of Diamond Valley College’s Sport and House Captain is a senior position in the Student Leadership structure. They should display outstanding leadership qualities and at all times be a role model for all members of the College community. The College Sport Captain should have a strong interest and active involvement in the School Sports Program.

Some of the roles of the captains including

  • Represent the College at a variety of School Sports events
  • Assist with the planning and running of Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals
  • Promote and further develop College sports activities at school including regular presentations at assemblies and articles in the newsletter
  • Be an active participant in the School Sports Program.

We are calling on all students from Year 11 & 12  that would like to consider themselves for this role to contact Brooke via Teams, email or in person at school.

Interschool Sport

Interschool sport is already underway with our Senior teams headed out yesterady (Thursday 15th February) to compete in tennis, basketball, cricket and volleyball, followed by the Year 7 boys cricket team on Tuesday 20st Feb.

Students should watch the compass newsfeed for training times and dates. Training is very important to the program as it gives students the opportunity to meet their team mates and coach prior to the day, develop their skills in the sport and work out team goals and strategies. It is also the perfect opportunity for students to ask any questions they may have.

Parents/Gaurdians will also have to consent and pay for sports excursions via their Compass portal. Payments and content should be done by the due date on compass. I will send out notifications and reminders once the event has been published.
