Mr. Jason Puttnins
Greetings to our wonderful community,
It has been a pleasure seeing all our returning families and students, as well as the friendly new faces in our community.
Weeks 1 and 2 of the school year has been dedicated to SWELL (Student Wellbeing) weeks. SWELL Weeks are such an important and worthwhile way to start the first days of the school year, as they are critical for establishing a culture of learning that will set the right tone for the rest of the year. To promote a positive classroom learning environment, it is important to make these first days the most productive they can be in building relationships. This helps each class to develop a sense of community which encourages students to participate and engage, while helping them feel safe to learn and grow both individually and collectively.
Tuesday 6th February marked the annual event 'Safer Internet Day.' Safer Internet Day is a global initiative to raise awareness of online safety issues. The eSafety Commissioner leads the initiative in Australia and they aim to educate young people about online safety risks, like online abuse, how to be safe online and where to go for help. This is run in partnership with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and South Australian Police (SAPOL) and we were fortunate enough to have Sergeant Michelle Hollis from SAPOL's Community Engagement Section visit us to run presentations for our Year 2-6 students.
This year's Safer Internet Day theme was three simple actions that we can all do with online safety: Connect. Reflect. Protect.
Connectsafely by keeping apps and devices secure and reviewing your privacy settings regularly.
Reflecton how your actions online may affect others or your safety.
Protectyourself and others by visiting eSafety.gov.au to find out how to stay safe online and report online abuse.
Please have a discussion with your child about how they can keep themselves safe when using the internet. By doing these things and sharing the Connect. Reflect. Protect message, we can work towards making every day a Safer Internet Day.
Yours in Love, Peace and Learning,
Jason Puttnins
