KLA Feature - English

At this early stage of the term, we are looking ahead to key learning events in English.  These include:

Year 7:  Our first unit has a distinct focus on transitioning Year 7 students from the literacy block they experienced in primary school, to a varied focus in their study of specific texts.  This will see them examine a variety of fiction, non-fiction, film, poetry texts in Term 1.  The overview for this unit can be found HERE.

Years 7-10: Teachers have started the term with an initial focus on the assessment of writing skills.  All students have composed a discursive text to show their independent control of writing.  From this writing piece we aim to set specific writing goals for each student.

Term 1 Excursion/Incursion:  To enhance the learning of Year 10 in their study of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, we will take Year 10 to a theatre performance in Week 7.  Year 8 will develop their creative writing skills in a dedicated incursion of writing workshops in Week 9.

We are grateful if parents take the opportunity to chat with your daughter about what they are doing in English.  This often allows parents to contribute to the ideas and experiences of students that they bring to their English classroom.
