Principal's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families

2023 YEAR 6 GRADUATION

Wednesday evening on the 29th November, our Year 6 Graduation Ceremony was an exciting but emotional night for our students, families, staff and our school community. Students then celebrated their graduation with a disco and a touch of karaoke.

It was wonderful to see everyone come together with over 180 people in attendance for such a special occasion. We were able to celebrate their primary school journey together and acknowledge the achievements of our Y6 graduating class of 2023.

The graduation is also an important milestone as we are able to start the process of saying farewell to our Year 6s as their final days of primary school draw near and they prepare to transition to not only the next chapter of their education but their life journey too.

I would like to acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our staff for the amazing organisation of the graduation and some of our awesome FOM volunteers and year 6 parent Dave Taylor for giving their time to help in the set-up of this very special event. Your exceptionally generous gift of time, creativeness, effort and passion certainly added an extra amount of special to this already momentous occasion. Thank you!

The Graduation Ceremony also provided an opportunity to recognise the exceptional achievements of students.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have been your Primary School Principal, to grow, learn and walk beside you!

I wish you all the best for your bright future ahead!

Farewell to Year 6 Assembly – Wednesday 20th December 1.10pm

A special farewell and congratulations to our Graduating Class of Year 6, 2023. Many of you came to the school in Foundation baby faced and with minds like sponges ready to absorb everything you encountered. You leave us on the verge of becoming teenagers and secondary marks the next chapter of your school life. I hope that you will all carry your experiences from Maramba with you wherever you go, and that you will use your memories of your time here to inspire you as you take this next big step in your life.

At 1.10pm, we will have an extra and special assembly on Wednesday devoted to the Year 6s to say goodbye. This will be a special dedicated gathering so they can sing their farewell song at the end of their last day of primary school. As a school, we can wish them all the best for the future.

We hope you are able to join us for this special occasion.

MARAMBA END OF YEAR CELEBRATION CONCERT!

On Thursday 7th of December, Maramba students invited the whole community to come and celebrate our end of year with a concert.

The hard work and dedication that all the students have done over the term came together in a mixture of songs and dances that connected all our community.

We had a wonderful performance by the Their Care team, a beautiful Eid and Diwali performance lead by the students, each year level presented a song that they choreographed themselves, and even the staff got involved in performing A Maramba Carol. Ending with a Whole School performance to tie everything together, really made me feel so lucky to be a part of this wonderful school.

It was a magical evening, and I am so very grateful to all the students and staff for their energy and enthusiasm. What a wonderful way to end our Performing Arts year at Maramba for 2023.

We can only keep growing from here!

DISCOVERY CELEBRATION DAY

Making time to celebrate something you have worked on is important.  It not only makes you feel a real sense of achievement it also empowers you to use your voice and share your new learning with others.

Every amazing student at our school showed us all how their learning was real and related to their Discovery Concept on Friday 15th December during our fourth Discovery Celebration Day for the year.

Concepts of Humanity, Life and Wellbeing were all unpacked throughout the term under the concept questions of:

Foundation: Why care for ourselves and our world?

Year 1 and 2: Why is it important to be different?

Year 3 and 4: Is Australia a fair country (Why/ Why not?)

Year 5 and 6: Does our past matter?

In Discovery for Term 4 us grade 5/6 learned about the Australian settlement and the first fleet. We also researched about what happened in that time and why that happened as an example like the 1851 gold rush, 1851 Eureka stockade and the very first Australia day which was dated way back in 1788 and many more. We could do this by power point, word document, poster.

Tenzin – Year 5

When immersed with new information under the study areas of History, Geography, Science, Civics and Citizenship and Design at the beginning of the term, the teachers cleverly led the students to understand and build empathy for issues others near and far from us may be experiencing.

Mid term the students were encouraged to identify something in this new body of learning that made them feel ‘sad, mad or worried about.”  This then served as the springboard for the students when working in partnership with others to think, design and create awareness and a possible solution to make their world and the world of others easier.

Our termly Discovery Concepts thread through all the other curriculum areas where possible making learning opportunities authentic for the growing minds of our students. Capabilities of creative and analytical thinking, problem solving, designing, reflection and working in collaboration with others are some of the vital skills needed for our ever-developing world. The photos demonstrate these developing skills are visible as the students shared their success with other students across the school before celebrating proudly with their parents and carers.

For discovery 2023 term 4 we explored the topic of Australian’s Settlement and the first fleet. 5/6K did the first part of Australia’s Settlement while 5/6W covered the second part covering more of Australia’s history closer to the modern day. Our solutions varied from helping people celebrate these many achievements of Australia or simply informing students about the importance of our past mistakes, and discoveries. We shared this information with PowerPoints, Speeches, Canva, and posters with comparison of past and present. And we all took inspiration from the feedback we were receiving from teachers, parents and students!
By: Susanna – Year 5

I was a very exciting day on the fifteenth of December 2023 we had our Discovery presentation. The grade four’s discovery concept was ‘Is Australia a fair country?’ Some kids did dioramas some animations, videos, songs and mini booklets. Some of the problems the students where making solutions for where Racism, Sexism, Bullying and Cyberbullying. In the afternoon our parents and guardians came to see our wonderful presentations.
