SPOTLIGHT

YEAR 4

Term 3 has been filled with lots of fun, learning and laughter for Year 4, and it has hurtled by at lightning speed.

The students have wowed us with their imaginations and sense of humour in our creative writing tasks each Monday, they have had fun experimenting with states of matter in Science and some have now even earned the right to write in PEN!!!

Speaking of writing, our Term 3 Cold Write was a hoot. Children had the task of writing a narrative about a Food Fight. So to set the scene there was a teacher food fight!!! Spaghetti and sauce and cream were hurled around, and just as expected the children cheered and roared and squealed. We were certainly immersed in what a food fight would look like, sound like and feel like, and as a result the students produced some wonderfully descriptive narratives.

The children also looked superb on Book Week Parade Day. Thank you for your efforts in helping your child create their amazing costumes and celebrate all the adventures reading can take us on.

We’ve also been very lucky to have Maggie visit us for some sport sessions. Maggie is a Year 12 student from McCarthy Catholic College and a representative hockey player. She kindly gave up her time to give Year 4 some hockey skills and drills sessions, which the children really enjoyed!

YEAR 2

Year 2 has had a memorable and productive Term 3. We are very proud of the hard work and growth of the Year 2 students in all areas.

We thoroughly enjoyed Book Week and the parade. The costumes and delight that were evident on the day were a wonderful way to showcase our rich literary learning and environment. Digging deeper into writing quality Narratives, Year 2 used inspiration from Gregg Dreise texts such as, Kookoo Kookaburra and Mad Magpie.

In Mathematics, we are currently learning about Division, and we look forward to our next topic focusing on Time.

We have been exploring forces in Science, and experienced an enormous amount of fun creating foil boats with masts and sails. Year 2 then used the power of wind to push the boats and to see if they would remain floating! Students are really enjoying the hands-on activities and experiments, especially learning how to create a rainbow using Skittles and a slingshot for toy cars.

In Creative Arts, we have been learning about Andy Warhol’s Pop Art. Our artworks have reflected this with bright colours and repeated images. We are working on self-portraits that repeat our face four times, just like Andy Warhol’s portraits of Marilyn Monroe from the 1960s

There has been some fabulous throwing and catching in Sport, and we have even tried some hits with the tennis racquets. The best part has been the encouragement shown towards each other as we learn these new skills. We were also lucky enough to participate in an AFL clinic. We had such a blast learning the new skills of handballing, marking, and kicking. We played lots of fun team-building games and will now follow the Sydney Swans in the AFL.

Mapping skills and landmarks have been discussed in HSIE, Geography. You had better ask us for directions instead of using Google Maps. Who knows where we could end up!

We enjoyed participating in the Father's Day Liturgy and sharing Donuts with our Dads, Grandads, and special friends last Friday.

One of the highlights recently was watching the Staff v Year 6 Oz Tag game! Congratulations, Year 6! Your win was a first against the staff, and we cannot wait to get our turn when we are in Year 6.

We have been implementing “Accountable Talk” into our teaching and learning practice. This is where the students have a greater voice in sharing their knowledge with each other, the teachers, and the class.

With only 12 weeks of Infants and Year 2 left, we're now looking forward to even more adventures and continuing to grow together as confident, respectful, and curious learners!
