Grade 5/6

We have officially finished Term 3! Congratulations to the Grade 5/6s for another wonderful term of learning! Thank you to all families who came along to parent/teacher interviews, it was fantastic to see students show off their amazing work and take pride in all that they have achieved so far this year!
In English, we have officially finished and published our persuasive texts on how child slave labour is a violation of basic human rights. Students have created engaging texts containing literary devices such as rhetorical questions, emotive language and high-modality words. When publishing their texts, students also had the opportunity to practise their typing skills to publish a good copy. This will be added to the students' writing folders, which they will get to take home at the end of the year. Next term, we will also continue our whole class text, Rivet Boy, which students are thoroughly enjoying!
In Maths, students have been extending their knowledge on fractions and decimals to add and subtract fractions with unrelated denominators, including equations where regrouping is required. We have also started to explore calculating fractions of an amount. The Grade 5/6s are to be commended for their efforts and persistence within Mathematics- we have been applying our skills and consolidating our knowledge by solving quite complex equations!
To finish off our unit on the Gold Rush and the Eureka Stockade, students have also participated in a mini-debate to end the term. We have also finished our unit on electric circuits in science. Within Wellebeing, we have also explored how to be an 'upstander' when something doesn't seem right, and when bullying or racism is taking place.
Lastly, a big congratulations to our students who participated in Hoop Time last week! I was incredibly proud to hear of the Grade 5/6's encouragement towards each other, teamwork and brilliant sportsmanship!
I hope everyone has a happy and safe holidays! I cannot wait to learn and grow with students in term four next year (the Grade 6's final term of primary school!!).
