Grade 4/5

Term 3 Celebrations!

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 Hoop Time at HILAC. I had the privilege of attending the Year 5/6 Hoop Time Day with Ashlee and our super coach Mr Barker. I was extremely proud of our George Street students, who displayed the values of resilience and respect as they competed in their games, showed excellent team-work skills and cheered on their classmates.

In Literacy, the students have finished publishing their persuasive pieces! This has been a long-term project, and I am thrilled with their efforts and final pieces. The students have learnt the importance of choosing words carefully and structuring their arguments effectively. Mrs Richardson has visited our classroom to hear some of the letters, and she was very impressed with the students’ arguments and ambitious ideas for our school.

In Numeracy, we have been exploring the world of decimals and fractions. The students have been matching decimals to fractions, placing decimals on number lines, and renaming tenths as hundredths using a Decimat.

Science lessons have been a highlight this term! We have been investigating forces in several fun and hands-on ways. The students loved comparing the difference between full cream milk and light milk when food colouring and detergent were added. We discovered that the full cream milk created a faster, more visible reaction. We also explored surface tension using water, pepper, and detergent. It has been fantastic to listen to the students’ discussions as they reflected on their investigations.

In Wellbeing, we have explored what racism is. A blue man was created to illustrate the importance of kind and unkind words with the students identifying that words can hurt and have a lasting impact on someone.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Parent–Teacher Interviews. It was wonderful for students to share their work with you and celebrate their efforts and achievements!

Happy Holidays! I wish all of our students and families a safe and enjoyable break. Thank you for your continued support throughout the term—I  look forward to another exciting term of learning ahead!
