Division Athletics
The sun came out for the Monash Waverley Division Athletics on Wednesday 9th October. Thirty-seven children competed at Bill Sewart Athletics Track in high jump, long jump, triple jump, hurdles, 100m, 200m, 800m, shot put, discus and relay, representing the Monash Heights District and EHPS.
All students were keen to compete after their training sessions at school and over the holidays. They tried hard to beat their personal best in their events, performing extremely well.
Congratulations to everyone who competed. A special mention to the following students who achieved ribbons for placing first to third: Josh - 1st in 1500m, Jayan - 1st in 200m, Marcus - 2nd in triple jump, Deric - 2nd in shot put, Amali - 2nd in shot put, Josephine - 3rd in long jump, Parker - 3rd in 800m, and Zerrin - 3rd in 800m.
The first and second placegetters qualified for the Eastern Metropolitan Region event. Wishing Josh, Jayan, Marcus, Deric and Amali all the best at the EMR Athletics next week, on Thursday 24th October at the Doncaster Athletics Track.
A huge thanks to the families who came to cheer and support the students. Special thanks to John Colley for warming up the students for their track events.
Terrific effort everyone!

Olympians Visit EHPS
We were very fortunate to have two Olympic athletes visit us last Thursday, 10th October. As part of the Victorian Institute of Sport Be Fit Be Well program, Brooke Buschkuehl spoke to our Years 3 to 6 students.
She was inspired as a Year 1 student watching Cathy Freeman run in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She instantly knew she wanted to compete in the Olympics one day. Brooke started her athletics career in primary school and enjoyed the long jump when she realised how far she could jump and has broken lots of records. She remains the current Australian record holder for her 7.13 metre jump in California USA in 2022.
Brooke is a three time Olympian and finished 7th in Brazil and Tokyo. She won a silver medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. She explained to the students that she has experienced numerous injuries. Resilience, persistence and determination ensured she was able to return to compete.
Will Petric, first time Olympic swimmer, also came to visit and answered some of the student’s questions.
We are extremely grateful for Brooke and Will taking time to visit us. Brooke’s presentation about her athletic journey was inspiring. She encouraged all the students to follow their dreams and create goals to achieve them. Brooke’s outstanding achievements reflect an amazing athlete, role model and person.
