Principal's Report

be Dear Families,

Dear families,

Currently our students and staff are busy in preparation for our Athletics Sports Day on Friday. Over the past 2 weeks we have had Jacqui Evans coming in to run skill sessions with the children. Athletics is certainly her area of expertise. We greatly appreciate her efforts and staff have certainly picked up some handy coaching hints. A huge thank you to Mason Argus who has taken over the organisation of our athletics day.

We are after volunteers to assist with the running of our throwing and jumping events. If you can assist in these events with raking, measuring or returning throwing items it would be greatly appreciated.

Students are asked to wear a T-shirt in their house colours.

This year, students in years 3-6, can nominate to complete a 200m or 800m distance run. These events will be timed and then collated with results from our other district schools to then, send students through to the next zone. These will be the first events at the beginning of the day at 9:10. Events for all students will begin at 9:30.  A coffee van will be available from 9:00am.

Next Tuesday, Grades 3-6 will participate in the Tatura Athletics Day. Due to time constraints, there have been some changes made to how the day will run. High Jump will only be competed in by the top 4 boys and top 4 girls for each age group on the day. We will be using the results from our Toolamba Athletics Day to determine who these students will be.

The 200m and 800m distance runs will be run at school.

GRAND FINAL FEVER

Best of luck to all our current and past, students and teachers, who are competing at the weekend in the Kyabram District Football Netball League Grand Final. Murchison-Toolamba have four teams competing on Saturday. Mrs Tuhan is playing in the C grade netball team and Mrs Hodgkisson is their team manager.

NEWSLETTER

Some families have expressed an interest in having a hard copy of the weekly newsletter. As from this week hard copies of the weekly newsletter will be available from the office foyer. Families are encouraged to pick them up from there if they would like one.

GRADE 3 / 4 CAMP

Grade 3 / 4 have just returned from a fantastic adventure camp at Toolangi. Activities included Flying Fox, Marble Run, Possum Glider, Damper Making, Billy Carts, Rock Wall and Canoeing. Several students braved the icy water whilst canoeing despite the warning from Dave about how it had been snowing, two days earlier. Students were to be congratulated on their behaviour, our bus driver was extremely impressed with them. Thank you also to staff for volunteering and  going above and beyond.

CLASSROOM UPDATE

As mentioned last week, Mr Tarrant is currently on sick leave. Mrs Thorn will remain full time in the Grade 4 classroom until the end of the year. When Mr Tarrant returns, he will be taking PE and classroom intervention. This will ensure stability for the students.

On Monday 16th September, JSC will be running a Footy Colours Day. Students are encouraged to come dressed in their favourite footy colours. Throughout the day students will participate in multi-age activities based on a footy theme.

OUT OF  SCHOOL HOURS CARE

Unfortunately, the person we had employed for OSHC has accepted another position. Currently we are filling shifts as best we can. We have advertised a position on Seek. If anyone knows of anyone who may be interested in the position, please let us know.

AFTER-SCHOOL CODE CAMP

If numbers permit, we will be running after school coding sessions for children from Grade 2-6. The sessions allow kids to hone their coding skills and keep practising through weekly sessions over the term! Students will produce multiple games and apps using our exciting online platform Code Camp World! Each week, students will choose the features they want to build and advance their problem-solving skills to build these features using code. They will take ownership over their projects and collaborate with their peers to make awesome apps!  Runs from October 17th – 5th December, 3.30pm-4.45pm. Cost $284 for 8 sessions. Further details are included in the newsletter.
