Being Well at Magill
Exciting Collaboration with Uni SA
We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Uni SA as we welcome two social work students, Devi and Kiruli, to Magill School. Currently pursuing their master’s in social work, they will be with us until the end of the year. During their time here, Devi and Kiruli will focus on developing a play program designed for older students to lead activities for younger students. This program will cater to a variety of interests, including energetic games and more structured, focused activities. As part of the research component to their project, Devi and Kiruli have been actively supporting several initiatives around the school, including What’s the Buzz, Positive Play, Student Action Teams, and the Year Six Leaders program. Please take a moment to say hello if you see them around the school!
What is Busking for Change?
Busking for Change is a fundraising initiative by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), to engage primary school students in musical literacy and raise awareness about Indigenous languages. The idea is simple, learn a song and raise funds for the ILF.
Here's how it works:
- Magill School registered and committed to learning a song, Shordi Krik, in English or Kriol, an Aboriginal language spoken in the Top End of Australia
- Students practice Shordi Krik to perform on our casual day at the end of Term 3.
- Once students master the song, they ‘busk’ or perform the song collectively or individually to their friends, family, school, or post a video online.
Magill School students will be singing at the end of term Assembly on Friday 27th September. All money raised from the Gold Coin Casual Day supports remote communities to access and create books in languages they speak at home.
