Mental Health & Wellbeing Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome back! We are now on the home stretch of the 2024 school year. It’s a time where lots of strong emotions can begin to show as our grade 6 prepare for the next stage of their educational journey and our other students begin to think about moving up to the next year level. Being resilient is more important than ever but what is resilience and what does it mean for our children.
Resilience is one of our school values. At MWPS we agree the value of RESILIENCE means not giving up when things become hard. We do this by:
- asking for help
- trying even when things are hard
- having a growth mindset
- being aware of how we react when things don't go our way
- trying new things with confidence
- learning from our mistakes
- considering advice from others to improve ourselves
Resilience is the ability to ‘bounce back’ after challenges and tough times. For children, challenges and tough times include experiences like starting at a new school or kindergarten, moving house, or welcoming a sibling into the family. They can also include serious experiences like being bullied, family breakdown, family illness or death. Children build resilience over time through experience. You can help your child learn skills and develop resilience by having a warm, supportive relationship with them. I have attached an article from our Happy Families subscription that can help our children ‘bounce back’ and develop their resilience.
Kind Regards,
Vanessa Moore
