Principal Reflections

Love of Learning

One of the pure joys as an educator and Principal is having a teacher and their student share with you a major achievement or milestone in their respective teaching and learning. In the past week I have had children sent to me to share their improvement in writing and number recognition, as well as celebrating a substantial jump in reading levels for several students. This is when you fully appreciate a culture of excellent teaching practice and the grit and resilience required from students to persevere with tasks in order to grasp a concept. Thank you to our wonderful teachers, educational assistants, and most importantly our students, for always reminding us of the joy of learning.

NAPLAN Success

Our explicit teaching in the English and Numeracy block has a significant impact on the academic success of our students. For instance, we have had very pleasing results in NAPLAN this year. The images below show the increased percentages of students achieving in the 'Strong' and 'Exceeding' proficiency bands:

Two areas to particularly highlight and celebrate are the Year 3 Reading results and Year 5 Writing results. In these two domain areas, the average results for St Edward's students were on par or exceeded the average for all students across NSW and all students across Australia. This is a hugely impressive achievement for our regional school and further demonstrates the quality teaching and learning that is occurring across all of our classrooms.
